MBS International Airport near Freeland
Pellston Regional Airport
Traverse City Cherry Capital Airport
Alpena County Regional Airport in the Lower peninsula.
Chippewa County International Airport in Sault Ste. Marie

Traverse City, or the Chippewa County airport, which isn't technically in Sault, Michigan. are your best bets.

We always use Chippewa to fly to Florida. It's about 20 minutes away.

I usually fly out of Flint. 4 hour drive and flights from there to pretty much any major city non-stop. I'm sure they'll have a non-stop to NYC. If you stay overnight at the Holiday In Express right near the airport they'll let you leave your car there at no charge.

We fly out of Wayne County, near Detroit. Found the cheapest flights from there when I was searching.

That might be because it is in Kincheloe.

If you fly out of Chippewa and you're worried about the stop in Detroit, DON'T BE. The Detroit airport is beautiful and is extremely easy to navigate.

Air Canada from Soo Canada has flights to Toronto and then New York. I have seen flights as low as $230 Canadian each way and the total time with stop over at Toronto is as little as 4 hours. My son once flew from Kinross to Denver and had to catch 4 planes and it took 12 1/2 hours. Soo to Toronto to Denver was 5 1/2 hours 2 planes and cost the same.
Check out the Air Canada Web Site and register for email Seat Sale bulletins. There are some good sales almost every month.

Yes it is very easy to navigate, lots of signs, big, but easy to find your way to the gates.

if you use North West be ready for a walk though as their area is about as far as it can be from where you come in.

Ya, but it is a nice walk, under the runway (the blue Mile), up to concourse A, B , or C, if you don't feel like walking you can take the escalators or the tram.
