Sweet deal. Well I think you deserve a big thank you from my fiance. This mod will save me hundreds in a few weeks and probably more down the line. To your knowledge, does the Wii's firmware affect the mod at all?

General Lee

nope works all on wii's

Incorrect, there are lots of unmoddable wii's showing up all over the place now. It may be true for older consoles, but not newer ones.

Well seeing as General had a good experience with the install, I think I will be getting my drive key at the end of the month. It seems like a good value and will save me hundreds the day of the install and more as time goes on.

What did you use to burn your backups?

General Lee
09-20-2009, 01:48 PM
Img burn

Strife
09-20-2009, 01:50 PM
Cool. I seen on the Drive Key website that they recommend Img Burn to record back ups. Is it free?

B.David
09-20-2009, 02:10 PM
Google is quicker than asking here. And yes, ImgBurn is freeware. I use it for Wii & 360 discs.

sweet. Same prices all around. What firmware version do you have on your Wii? I have 4.1U and I am worried that it wont work properly.

General Lee
09-24-2009, 07:41 PM
i have 3.4 it says it will work on all wii's so give it a shot

B.David

The chip works fine no matter what firmware, but you can't install Homebrew on 4.1... but there is a way to upgrade to 4.1 if you already have the HBC, and still want to install WAD files for the free virtual console and WiiWare games.

What tools? If you already have both you're set to go through the WAD Installer in the HBC. If you also have it installed, the USB_Loader_GX-UNEO_Forwarder would install them too.

Unless they updated the wad installer within the past few months, I have tried that already. I tried loading up the games I installed and the Wii just rebooted.

Then from what I've been told at Blackcats-Games.net, you need to have that USB Loader installed before you updated to 4.1.

Yeah all I have is the Homebrew Channel installed and nothing else.

Oh well. Playing back up games is better than free wiiware and VC games.

General Lee

I'd agree, except that out of the 89 Wii games I have, I play maybe 2 of them. Most of my time goes to Virtual Console. :) However, there is a solution for you...

This is one of the torrents I grabbed a long time ago so I assume it's still out there.

Okay I got my mod chip today. Install went pretty smoothly. For a novice user, I was able to install this chip and have everything up and working in about half an hour. While I was waiting for my chip to arrive, I backed up a few games. So far I have burnt and tested Rockband: ACDC Track Pack, Punch Out, Mario Strikers Charged, Super Mario Galaxy, Price is Right 2010, and The Beatles Rockband. I am in the process of backing up NHL 2K10 and probably a few more titles.

i can softmod a wii faster than you can install a drivechip, with all the same functionality.. except i can run games off a usb hard drive.

General Lee
11-06-2009, 07:11 AM
meh this works better then a soft mod and no ****ing around with stupid files and load this do that garbage

Upper Decker
11-06-2009, 10:10 AM
what ****ing around with single files? I found an all in one installer i threw on a card and literally 3 min later the system was fully modded. run games from usb, VC installers. If that method is too much to handle then i suggest you put the wii down before you hurt yourself or others.

My chip is only a last resort now.

The softmod w/ usb hdd is ultimate. I would rather have my usb drive, with 100 games on it, then have to burn a game to play it.

The only reconsideration I might have, is for the upcoming WODE, which is a chip that has usb hdd loading. No updates can defeat that.

My Wii did a system update, and my only backup game won't work anymore. Is there a 4.2u full install soft modd availible?
