This is the church that promoted 30 days of sex. Look where it got them.

Arrest stuns Coral Springs congregation

A youth pastor at a large church, arrested and charged with molesting a teenage girl, was the subject of Sunday's sermon.

At the bustling Church by the Glades in Coral Springs, pastor David Hughes usually preaches the gospel, the good news. But Sunday, the news was bad.
``There is brokenness, anger and a lot of hurt. This is an ugly story,'' Hughes told a sanctuary packed with several hundred worshipers for the 11:15 a.m. service.
The story broke Saturday when Coral Springs police arrested one of the church's youth pastors, Russell Dion Lewis, 28, and charged him with custodial battery and 10 counts of lewd and lascivious molestation.
Police said Lewis molested a 14-year-old girl and tried to rape her. Investigators added that the contact between Lewis and the girl, even if it was consensual, was illegal because of the girl's age.
Lewis was held Sunday in the Broward County jail on $20,000 bond.

The church has been in the news twice in the past two years. In 2007 it stirred controversy with a lecture series called ``The Bare Naked Truth on Sex,'' and then promoted the program with a billboard along Interstate 595 that showed two pairs of feet hanging off a bed.

You'd better make a clear connection between one event and the other, because I think you're out to lunch.

And BTW, innocent till proven guilty.

I like my church's ad better. Who needs the bed?

Did I say he is guilty? No.
But he has already been fired from his position. So I expect there is something to it.
Yeah, I may be out to lunch. But you must admit it has at least the appearance of something coming home to roost.

Nothing like the Catholic church at all then, Guilty even if proven innocent, he loses his job because he might have done something illegal that is still most likely sanctioned in the bible. She was over 3 right?

Yeah, I know anoher church that let a young pastor go like that. They paid the price.

So we have a problem here. You figure if a church speaks about sex, then it it stands to reason that someone will be motivated to go out and attempt rape???

No wonder the church doesn't talk about it much.

No, I don't believe that at all But when a church pays an inordinate amount of attention to sex, this could be a possible outcome.
BTW, I agree with you, the church does not talk about sex enough. So put your guns away, ok?

I happpen to think that this particular church not only talked about it too much, it went about it the wrong way.

I think church should always talk about sex however I think it's also important that all LAWS of the "land" (state, province etc) are obeyed!

Now this guy would have ended up sleeping with a minor anyways.

No matter how much sex I have, and I could every day, ten times a day if I had a babysitter or went all in a row, I would NEVER sleep with anyone under the age of 21. That's ME. I have morals. I know it's like 14, 16 or 18 , something like that but for me, being almost 30 I won't ever touch someone who's much more than 5 or 6 years older or younger. Just my taste.
Ok maybe older...but not younger. I like older partners. Just me.

But this pastor, that's him. If he's not morally disciplined enough to listen to the laws where he lives, or to understand how morally wrong it is to guide a young person into a sexual act because he is in the position of power than it's his fault and not the church'
s for promoting sex.

I can tell you over and over, go have sex as long as it's good for you and your partner, please enjoy.

See the conditions, it's not good for anyone if anyone goes to jail even if the parties involved can find a "moral" excuse.

In the same token, someone who's prone to sexually being attracted to younger people even if they never have sex the one time they do I bet they're going to go after someone younger. So this guy didn't have to have a lot of sex or promote a lot of sex to screw it up with a minor. Some guys are just fatally attracted to younger women. He should have kept his pants on either way, outside of church, law and position. It's just best to keep your pants on when the girl is 17. Enough said.
