The problem, SB, when I try to have these discussions is that you tend to be very secretive and cryptic in what you are saying, that is, I find it hard to decipher exactly what you are saying. If this is how you talk to people, I'm afraid we would have a difficult time talking about anything. So, let me answer your question with another question first.
Is the way you discuss religion here on this board the same way you discuss religion face to face?
Soundbear

Face to face, I will discuss religion if there seems to be an opening where the other person is interested and willing. Other wise, we talk about things of mutual interest, business, family whatever.
If I meet with you, that's the way it will be. I won't buttonhole the person, but there is a resident atheist that I am pleased to call a friend. We have had a couple of enjoyable chats over coffee. Not the only one, either.
Chocolate cream pie at the West Side, mmmmm!! :) :) :)

I sat next to him for well over an hour one nite and he never brought up religion once, but we did discuss cheeseburgers and heartburn.

You guys who don't believe in Jesus anyway, maybe you should find a picture of Mohammed and start a thread about him.
Let's test Soonet. See how impartial they really are.

Blue, sorry if you see disrespect in any posts on here. I don't see this as a thread about Jesus at all. I see it as a thread about some crazy guy who maybe thinks he's Jesus. So maybe it'd be more appropriate to find a pic of some dude who looks like Budda and ridicule him. Oh wait, that's been done many times.
I'm not sure I'd be able to pick Mohammed out of a lineup - you?

I made no charges or accusations. I am curious though, about this obsession/attraction to/about Jesus by people who don't believe in Him.
These same people don't believe in Mohammed either. I imagine if we had Muslims trying to influence things HIS way, they might see the same sort of posts about Mohammed? Or would Soonet allow those same sort of quasi-mockery posts? Once more, I am not complaining. I am genuinely curious about this dynamic.

I think as long as it is fairly gentle it should be fine don't you? That post wasn't really 'bashing' at all and I think it's when the bashing starts that the mods need to get involved.
Going back to my example, I think putting up a cartoon with the Budda in it looking funny shouldn't cause any trouble. It's when people take themselves too seriously that they start over censoring things.
Bluesky

No problem here.
I do know though, that if one were to post a representation of Mohammed, and if there were Muslims on the board, it would raise a mighty stink, and Soonet would no doubt censor it. They wold not be able to tolerate the flack.
Because in the Muslim faith, it is a sacrilege to even attempt to depict their prophet graphically. That's what the whole fuss was about with the cartoons. In fact, Ezra Levant (publisher of the Western Report) was taken to the HRC for doing just that. He won the case though.. (at great cost to himself).
Depictions of Christ are not prohibited.
But worship of depictions of Him would be a violation of the first commandment.
Ya know, I have to admit that I agree with Blue on this. Why is it that it's constantly OK for society to poke fun at Jesus? But watch out if anyone goes after a different religion's idol. A little respect goes a long way.

And my underlying question is, Why does society poke fun at Him?
Isn't mocking someone a tacit admission that He exists?
Maybe I am off base here but no one pokes fun at the Easter bunny. One normally doesn't poke fun at dead people. Or a non-entity.
It's along the same line as atheists expressing anger at God.

At the risk of provoking further arguement, I think it's not people poking fun at Jesus, but people poking fun at Christians.
