So...I'm going to take the road test to get my G license tomorrow. Has anyone taken it lately? Does anyone have any input on things I should remember before I take the test? Tests make me nervous..

It's not that hard, stay relaxed and check your mirrors every few seconds.

And don't run anyone (or thing) over! /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif

Make sure you check blind spots over your shoulder too. Don't completely rely on mirrors.

what do you do if there's a person on a bike riding on the road. Do you go around them or do you have to treat them as if it were another car and follow behind it?

Go around if you can safely do so.

k what about turning right when the left green arrow is showing?

07-19-2007, 09:28 PM
bikes are treated just as a motorcycle,or car, truck, unless they are on the sidewalk.Glad i got my license in the early 70s,was a breeze then and only cost 13$ to get.

Don't turn on the right if the green left arrow is showing....big boo boo! If the green light and green arrow light is showing it is ok, but if just the green arrow don't go!

Oh Ker you'll do just fine in MY car! lol

When you are changing lanes
#1 Check to see if its clear in all directions
#2 put the signal light on
#3 Check again
# merge

That dings alot of people...

I took mine in December. Don't go over the speed limit at all and don't go through any yellow lights, including an arrow. They will get you for that. Otherwise, it is the same "skills" as the G2 test: 3 corner turn, parallel parking, etc. Only difference there was going onto the highway, they take you up a bit so you hit 80km.

I did mine last January...

They will test all the same things they did the first time and will also take you up the highway so that you do 80km/h and change lanes. You will have to parallel park again and do your 3 point turn etc...

You will have to fill out a questionnaire before you take your test. They will ask you how many times you have driven in an over 80 zone recently... Make sure you have driven on the highway at least 5 times in the last 3 months or they will not let you take the test!

Make sure you give cyclists a FULL lane, don't just 'go around' them. Do a proper lane change when passing the cyclist. (signal, shoulder check etc...). Definitely do not make a right turn when the left turn arrow only is showing it is illegal and you will fail automatically... DON'T SPEED and watch out for the school zones! Rely on shoulder checks, not your mirrors, the examiner will be watching for that.

Parallel park...oh dear..I hate those.
Thank you Tutones for the answer on the cyclists.

Make sure you look down side streets also. A friend failed for not being 'observing of your surrounding', and that was a point she made about side streets and driveways.

They will have you change lanes about 10 times, and do an emergency road side stop, 3 point turn, and a highway driving. They take you down churcill blvd, up lake to trunk, to the small road just before Garden River, and onto frontenac (where you do your 3 point turn) make sure even when you are stopped at a red you are constantly looking around, don't just look with your eyes.

LOL guess I was late in my post lol

That's what I thought lol

I took my G a few years back - Remember the speed limit is 50 in town, NO MATTER WHAT unless otherwise posted. I believe its 60 posted on 2nd Line. I had a friend take the test and failed because she though the speed limit was 60, seriously, failed her and she had to wait and she was 35 yrs old.( Its incredibly slow and everyone will pass you,but who cares, as long as you get your license eh? ;))
Once they take you out onto the highway - which was just up Trunk Rd towards Garden River - easy peasy. Always check out blind spots, always look over your shoulder when making a lane change. DONT FORGET to check your mirrors as soon as you get in, adjust yourself, OVER DO IT, even if it seems like your over doing it, its better to do it their way, cause u can only get some many wrong on a test and they will fail you.
They will definitely make you do a 3 point turn and parallel park.

The only thing I did wrong was forgot to check my right side, making a right turn.....Ooops... /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

The thing that gets me is why do people stop doing this once they have taken the test? By the way if you don't have one yet now that you have your license you'll have to get a cell phone.
