I have a 40GB PS3 that is over warranty by 5 days and Sony won't honor it. It won't read any games or disks. It does turn on and will go online, etc. Anyone know how to fix this? I am heading out right now to buy a new one but figured if it was fairly inexpensive to fix this one I would get it done.

It did this after my son took the software update. I tried resetting to factory but no go.

Sony is bad for this. what is likely wrong is the blueray Laser went. you can get a replacement laser kit for just under 100 bucks.

I have been reading online that the new software was a way of killing the older generation units. It worked fine until my son did the upgrade and now it is good for a paper weight.
