Is this a guessing game?

When the pawn shops on queen grow unicorn horns and prance throughout the sky with the reindeer?

Pawn shops are great places to shop for people who never, ever use them as pawn shops.

tell you what go to Sears or wherever you want and buy the tool that you need and you can almost bet on it that there will be one on sale at a pawn shop in about a week or so.

5 used DVD's for $24. I figure that's a pretty good deal.

Also, camera equipment, musical equipment, etc. Just like anything, you need to do your homework. Talk with the people there and compare prices with other places.

I went to the pawn shop one time, they had a used 1" impactgun i was interested in. I was alarmed at the price though. They wanted the same price for a used no name brand gun, as a brand new ingersoll-rand gun. I asked him to cut the price substantially and he didnt want to budge. So the gun stayed on the shelf.

WARNING!!

Ordered an in line sander from a local auto supplier. This no-name unit came in, and I said, no, I want a name brand. So they ordered up an Ingersol Rand.

Exactly the same unit. Except for the stick on name tag and the price.

Hmmmm.

You mean high prices like the $4500 or so worth of pa speakers I found one of the bars in town for $1000? Sounded like a deal to me. I don't think they got ripped off on the deal!

Hmmmm.

I ordered a set of crowfoot wrenches for someone last year. They were a no-name brand, cheap cheap. They came in and were stamped by gray tools, and had grays warranty slip in the box. Gray isn't the best of the best, but they sure aren't whitebox. I was told that if a batch of tools don't meet the comapny requirements, they put them aside and sell them off to other companies to sell at discounted prices and hope they don't have problems with them. So they could have been just as good and lasted forever, or they could have broken first time they were used.

I heard some mechanics go to pawn shops and try to find Snap On tools ..then they break them and when the Snap On guy comes around their workplace they trade 'em in for new ones

I'd imagine there's a lot of tools you could do that with...MasterCraft, Grey, Craftsman, etc...

Hubby only buys certain brands because on the off chance they do break he knows he can get it replaced. Plus most of the better quality tools don't break to easily, so you can depend on them compared to the cheapo ones.
