Ok so I've got the upgrade complete, thanks to Fudd Rucker for all the help on it.
I don't know exact models of all things, but I'll give a list in a minute of what I do know. At this point, I'm interested in making the computer as quiet as possible. Right now I find it fairly loud, though that could be because I'm used to my little laptop.
Here's what I've got. Fudd Rucker, maybe you can add some details, if you remember?:
AMD AM3 Socket Quad core processor
Gigabyte AM3 Motherboard with crossfire capability. Doesn't seem to have too much onboard, except sound - not even wireless, from what I could tell. Board does have crossfire capabilities.
Lancool PC-K62 case
Gigabyte Radeon 4870 graphics card
So far everything's running around 40d Celsius or below, according to the Speedfan utility and I'd like to keep it that way, if possible.
Current cooling is as follows:
CPU - Not sure, but it's loud. Doesn't look stock but I honestly haven't looked to closely at it. I'd go for something quieter though.
Case - 4 120mm fans (all blue led, which is nice). One in front for draw, two in top and one in back for exhaust.
Graphics card - stock (very loud) fan with heat sink. I've underclocked this through Catalyst, but there was no change in the fan noise (or speed as far as I could tell)
So, given the above, what would recommendations be? When I first got the case I ran it with nothing inside, just to get an idea how loud the fans were and I don't really think they're the problem. I think it's CPU and Graphics card, but I'm certainly open to anything.
This is a bit of a hobby project for me so I'm not all that concerned about budget, though I'd like to be reasonable. If something's tons of $$, I'll just have to save up a little longer, that's all. I'd like to get this done right.
Thanks for your suggetions
