I need your help. How do you find a new doctor. My son's doctor *as of yesterday* is on leave for a min of 8 weeks and they don't think he is going to come back. They don't have a doctor to take over his patients. As of 4 days ago he saw the same doctor and was put on a prescription and was told he needed to be monitored. I am so frustrated. 4 years and 100's of tests and we finally get a diagnosis and now he has no doctor. I could cry right now but instead I am eating chocolate. So much for the diet. My doc is not taking on new patients and I don't know what do to.

Then go to a walk in and tell them due to the fact he has a condition and must be monitored you want him to see Dr. Zuefelt. He is a specialist in pediatrics and a really good doc. My kids go to him.

they only reason why my son was with him anyways is because he has had issues since birth and my general practitioner who has myself and the rest of my kids thought it was best if he was under this doctors care. Which walk in do i go to and do i just request that he be refereed to that doctor?

Try the one at the hospital. They are usually pretty good for requesting referals.

Dr Zufelt doesn't do primary care but is great if you can get him.

I apologize for any misunderstanding. For people who don't already have him such as the original poster, he is not doing primary care.

Ask your dr if he can give a referal for you child to a pediatrian. Dr Stevenson is who my son sees and she is awesome.

the problem is that the doctor is not even able to give a referal to another doctor. I went right into the office today to try to get answers from the sec. I am on a wit list with dr stevenson.

dr. stevenson has a long wait list. we have been waiting for an appointment with him for months, maybe a year or more. if you can get in a referal with dr. zuffelt he is great and has been very helpful dealing with my step-sons issues. he is on vacation at the moment until after the 20th(about). dr.z is very thurough and saw the issues my ss was having right off the bat and is now helping us try to regulate them with medication. also that really sucks about dr.lam. i was going to call tomorrow as my other kids are not feeling too good and i think they may need antibiotics. do you know what happened to him?

No she didn't say. But when I went there she was on the phone and refering people to the walk in or the hospital. She told me that he was on leave for min 8 weeks and didn't think he was comming back. I just saw him last week. :( ugh

who is the new pediatrician? and how do i go about enrolling?
Mu daughter see Dr Zuefelt twice a year, He is a great doctor and I'm very lucky to have him. She also has a nurse practitioner she sees at algoma public health on queen street by the bus terminal. Annette Ratts. She goes there for her vaccinations and check ups. I would call there and see if she can take him. They specialize there in the health issues your son has. Worth giving it a shot anyways. If you want the number pm me and i ll give it to you.

I would contact GHC to see if you can get him into a nurse practitioner, and then the NP can refer you to a pediatrician. That's what we have, and any time my kids have some unusual situation, we are referred to a specialist. Or, if you're not already with GHC, do as advised above by going to a walk-in and see if you can get a referral to a pediatrician. Your situation sucks...sorry. We lost Dr. Muhlstein for the kids when he retired a few years back, that's when we got in to a NP, and we love her, she's great.

Well thanks to me being persistent along with mild begging, I managed to get him in with my GP for now. The walk in clinics are not allowed or don't want to (not quite sure what one) prescribe the medication that he is on. but just a heads up for anyone with dr lam, it does not look like he will be back.
