Has anyone ever have steroid injections? I go to the hospital tomorrow for some in my fingers, hand /wrist and just wondering what to expect. Does it hurt? Not sure it could hurt anymore then it already does. Do they freeze it first?
The surgeon said injections. I'm just assuming it's steroid injections.

It does sound painful but believe it or not....I'm excited about it. I'm expecting to come out of there in less pain then going in. Lets hope it works cause the first surgery is still a fair wait from now.

My sister had steriod injections in her hip a couple years ago. It was the last thing they could really do before she had her hip replaced. Going into the hospital she could barely walk and the injections helped a lot. They didn't last as long as expected for her. The shot was suppose to last for three months and it barely lasted a month. It did relieve her pain while it was in her system.

Oh that is so good to hear goodasgold. I don't care how long they last, one day pain-free would be amazing. But does the actual shots hurt?

Thanks for the link Ne touchez paz. I already told my wrist surgeon that I have no tolerance for pain so hopefully he'll go easy on me. This is the surgeon who is doing my surgeries on my wrist but tomorrow he's doing my trigger thumb and fingers/wrist because I can't see the thumb surgeon til April. I was ready to kiss the guy. I don't think I would have made it til April.
I don't think I've ever been so excited about getting needles in my life. Very strange.

I had steroid injections in the bottom of my foot. The doctor told me it would be extremely painful and it did hurt but it wasn't that bad. I guess it is all dependant on one's pain tolerance and what pain you have to compare it to. I felt relief for a couple of weeks (it was supposed to be for three months) but it was worth it, even for those couple of weeks.

Ya I think it would be worth it even if it was only for a day.
Would I be able to get more injections if they don't last 3 months? I know I should ask the doctor but I was just kinda wondering about it.

I have had many steroid injections and they did not hurt, the Dr will inject a freezing before the steroid is injected. You may experience some discomfort but I haven't. How long the injection will last depends on the individual situation. Ask the Dr tomorrow how often you can have them repeated, guidelines are different depending upon the person and their situation.
Good luck tomorrow...i believe you will feel less pain beginning tomorrow!

Yeah and can you imagine what it's going to be like after surgery? I might have to find someone to help me out. ;) I mean, it is my right hand and all. Depressing.

I had Steriod injections in my left wrist back when I was about 19, I had what they called ganglian(sp) in my wrist that about 4 months after the injections I actually had to go in and have it removed by surgury..

You could not give me 20 Plus Million to do them needles again in my wrist or anywhere else in my body, I had Dr Casses (which is no longer hear but was a great dr) Do Mine.. I do not know if its cause the wrist is so small or what but (I can deliver children naturally if that tells you how my pain tollerance is)

I will NOT LIE.. THEY DID not help me with pain and it HURT Like HELL...

Tippy Good luck today! I have never had a painful experience with my steroid injections and I have had both shoulders done, both wrists done, an elbow, fingers, ankle and hip. Some joints have been done numerous times over the years. I have been given these injections by family Dr, Orthopedic surgeons, rehabilitative specialists and plastic surgeons. The worst part is the freezing used before the steroid and that is no worse than a mosquito bite.
They have helped me made my life better, I will be having a shoulder done very soon.
take care!

Thanks mags.
I had come to the conclusion that I don't care if the needles hurt as long as I get some relief. But now icecapp has me a little worried. I guess I'm gonna have to put on my big girl pants. lol

Oh and jiggles......I didn't say the mirrors were for me. ;)

Sorry Tippy... How did you make out..

I dont know maybe if It was the dr, or if it was me.. But My bad experience I would not do it again, again it was also yrs ago.. And drugs change, mixtures compounds etc... So might be other reasons Why I felt so much pain.. But Like I said I would not do it again.
