would that be on a cell phone or landline? I noticed that my cell through bell is starting to do that for even local numbers. If I try without 705 it says number not in service.

Yep, been moving towards this a while I think, my cell has been doing it for over a year.

Original post reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Elaine refused to "shake before drinking" and Jerry grabs the bottle and does a patronizing small shake and says "Ya, that's real hard."

I wouldn't get so uptight about typing/dialing 3 more numbers. ;)

Program them in your phone memory and it will only add one more button. Heck, reprogram all your directory numbers and there'll be no change at all.

next year the area codes change and we will have to remember the numbers all over again(too old for this ****)

OH well one more reason for me not to call people.

"how come you never called me yesterday?"
me- "well I was so tired I couldn't dial an extra 3 numbers. I figured you would eventually give in and dial the numbers and call me"

Haven't had any problem calling local numbers without the area code, did this just start today?

Something else that's annoying though. I have my home # with 1-705 on speed dial on my cell. If I'm out by Goulais I get a message that it's a local call and it won't go through with the full number. Anywhere else, including in town, it goes through fine with the full number. Makes no sense to me.

dialing 705 for local calls is already a requirement for Bell's 3g network. At least saving the numbers and contact info in my iphone is a breeze.

Does it age me by saying I remember just having to dial 4 digits. I've suffered no ill effects from having to dial 3 more, I am sure I will survive having to dial another 3.
