Everyday my computer does a back up. Do I need to do anything with all these backedup files? Are they clogging up my computer and hogging space? I have never even thought about deleting them. Should I delete and if so HOW?

I bring this up because I find my computer running very slow after doing all the normal things like deleting history, defrag etc

It depends on whether you are creating a new back up file every time or overwriting the existing one. If you are making a new one each time, you are going to take up room on your hard drive needlessly, but if you are overwriting the existing file, you won't take up any extra room. Generally speaking, unless you are using up a significant chunk of your hard drive, you shouldn't have any performance problems from storing files.
Do you run any antispyware programs? Do you have a lot of programs loading up when you start your system? How much memory do you have in your computer? What antivirus program do you use?
I don't think the back up files are causing your issues.
