women's questions after hysterectomy's

question 1: if you have a hysterectomy but keep your ovaries, and are not having pap tests done, then how often would you get checked or how would you know if you develop ovarian cancer?

question 2: a friend asked me, Since I had a hysterectomy many years ago, about discharge? I said what discharge? Apparently she has some discharge every month, when she would normally have her period. I told her I have never had that issue, nor has any of my other family or friends, ever mentioned having any discharge after their hysterectomy. Is this something that normally occurs for some people? I told her to see her doctor, since I had absolutely no idea. In the meantime, I am curious. Is this normal for people after a hysterectomy?

i can't really answer your questions other than a pap test does not test for ovarian cancer. it tests for cervical cancer/abnormal cell changes so that should not be effected but if the cervix is left in place then you should probably push to continue regular screening even if the inside stuff is gone because there can still be issues. hope someone else can answer the rest
