I spent labor day On the Island and took a few pictures out at the Milford Haven ghost town. They are taken with my cell therefore the quality is not so great but you get the idea. Please feel free to leave some comments with what you think. Thanks for looking.

Take hwy 548 through richards landing to the far south of the island. Turn Left onto Garside road at thebig bend ( the second big bend... there are two parts to garside rd. you want to take the second sign for garside rd.) once on Garside rd turn left onto Milford haven road. drive down milford haven road untill you come to a gate. this is where you will park. and find the old house in the second picture. you will have to get out and walk down the old dirt road for a bit but if you look in the bushes to your left you will see some old houses, and just a standing chimney and a foundation.. which looked kinda creepy. follow the road untill you come to a clearing. this is where you will find the big house/hotel looking building. look to your right and you will see a building down by the water aswell as a foundation to an old building... behind the houses on your left hand side i believe there may be an old stone road in there.. didnt go look at that though.... but i believe this is private property so enter at your own risk.

awwwwwwwwwwwsome... I read and read about this place.. mentioned it at camp to one of the locals who lives on the island.. she looked at me funny said she had never heard of it, when she went home to ask her parents it was the same thing.. she asked her grandmother and the grandmother did not want to talk much about it kept hush and said she had no clue, but she seemed rather bestranged by the whold thing and was quiet curious as to how she new about it.;

She went and when I went back to camp.. SHE was overly freeked out... said had I of told her earlyer in the summer we would of did a day trip.. but are planning one for next summer..She said her and her friends were very freeked out.. and explained everything as your pictures have it..

Thanks for sharing.. she has said shes asked around and its kinda a tabu subject with older people on the island...

Just as an FYI...I Googled "Milford Haven-St. Joseph's Island, ON". There were a number of hits but it's very strange how little there is about the demise of the place. On one site, giving a timeline of the settling and history of the Island in point form, there is mention of a sawmill being built there, then 3 or 4 mentions after that of who was running the mill at different times then nothing. It is mentioned in the book "Ghost Towns of Ontario" but other than saying families gradually moved away, there is no concrete reason given. For as well documented as a lot of Island history is, the lack of it on this place is intriguing.

Faster to blast down base line and then just take a left when it ends on the U-Line.
In plain directions, take a left at the very first corner on the Island, (the gas station) and stay on that road until it ends (which means you don't turn into Hilton Beach), then just take a left and it's around a couple of bends. You took the extremely long route if you went past Richards Landing. But still a nice tour.
That's around the corner from my place yet I've never taken the time to go and look. Guess I'll have to. Nice pictures!

I am really curious as to why no one wants to talk about this place, and why there is not much documented info on it. makes you wonder if something horrible happened there. Weird, I'm gonna go back there sometime soon to get some better pictures now that I have my Nikon. Maybe do a little more exploring.
