View Full Version : Gassing up across is sure worth it now. 0.83 vs $1.22 a liter!

Just gas up across the river , it was 3.16 a gallon after the math thats 0.83 a liter. I notice Esso over here is $1.22 a liter that is the largest spread I have ever seen. Almost .40 a liter cheaper thats just nuts.

There's another reason. As a contractor, I don't pay for my gas, my customers do!!!

Besides, I cant empty the truck.

If you got your gas across the river you could charge your customers less.

Just a thought. :)

When I see people at the pumps on this side I think they must have a criminal record or more money than brains.

Let’s see….

My tank holds about 50 litres. I’d save 40 cents per litre every fill. So gosh I’d save $20 each fill. Not bad.

For this $20 I get to sit and wait at customs both ways, sometimes for quite a long time. Then, at least on the American side I get to be made to feel like a criminal while my entire life is investigated. So bottom line, any way I look at it I’m going to be an hour or so filling up at the very least, probably more like an hour and a half. I have to say, if I got paid that little an hour and had to take that kind of crap for it I must be asking people if they’d prefer paper or plastic.

Yeah sorry, might be you but not me. I’ll stick to my side of the ditch. Baaaaad as it may be.

Poor planning = long waits at the border...And if you have nothing to hide, they are just questions.... I was there and back in 25 minutes... Saved 60 bucks if you count the 12 pack and milk... I see your point though... if you have a small car you dont save as much.. Me, I dont like to give my money to the greedy gas companys...Id go even if I had a small tank.... As long as its cheaper... im makin the trip..

Hmm... well we always check the bridge cam when we go across. Very rarely are we held up.

They usually ask us two or three questions... where do you live? where are you going?

For a long time, we were asked what our relationship was. And we are sometimes asked what we do for work. Really... simple questions that take all of ten seconds to answer.

I don't see what the big problem is?

This time of year there are no big lineups on the bridge. I refuse to be held ransom any longer to gas companies who raise thier prices without just cause. I rather enjoy my trip across the bridge. The view is spectacular, I have a few minutes to myself and best of all...its my own little protest about gas prices in Canada. I heard the good looking women don't have as many problems except for the occasional horny border guard. But for everyone else its "when was the last time you were over" and if you don't answer in the last few weeks its "were you ever finger printed?" "where do you work?" "how long have you worked there?" etc. The $20 bucks savings - with the $5 bridge fare that's $15. Not to mention the extra gas you burn. If you're doing the crossing in less then 30 minutes you must be going over at 6 am.

I went over at 9 am this morning just to gas up. I was there and back within the 1/2 hr. I normally don't go across for gas but refuse to pay the price that is here. The only questions i got this morning were what my relationship to my stepson and why I was going across. When I said gas the customs officer asked me if they sold Gas in Canada. when I said I didn't want to pay the price here he didn't say much. Asked my stepson if he was mine and he was like ya, no, the customs officer got a chuckle out of it.

Only thing we buy here at home anymore is fruit, veggies and most meats.

It is worth it when you go across for more than just gas and make it an outing instead of a chore. we go across we go for dinner which we would do here anyways but it is even cheaper over there, then we do groceries which eggs, milk, butter alone makes it worth it. eggs= 0.97 milk=1.99 and and butter 2.39 so about $5 for all that as opposed to $5 only for milk here. Again makes it worth it then with the savings on the gas and consider it an evening out .... we are talking at least $30 saved.

I only get gas here when it is an emergency like Christmas eve with all the running around we did we didn't have timeto go across so I put 15$ in the tank until I get there tomorrow. It would be to crazy to go today.

Oh and yes we always buy the boneless skinless chicken breast at walmart....a club pack 11$ there are usually 9 large breasts in the package and we get about 11 meals for 2 out of it so that is pretty darn good savings compared to here.

5)(Never had this asked)How do you know each other?
6)(Never had this asked either) Who does the child belong to?
7)Have you ever been arrested or finger printed?
8)Where do you work? What do you do there?
9)How often do you cross?
10)Who is the car registered to?
11)Are you bringing any fruits, vegetables, meats, fire arms, knives, weapons alcohol tobacco into the country?
12)Are you bringing money into the country 10K or more? HAHAHA yeah ok

Then he told me to have a nice day. I have been asked most those questions at one time or another but never all at the same time and 2 of them have never been asked....what is up with that. Anyways not that I care, I just found it a little odd. I am headed back over this afternoon have vet appointments.

I think that they run through the whole shmeer just for practice once in a while.

My motorhome has been x-rayed 2 out of 5 trips.

Here 's what I found out. Years back, I bought a truck that, unbeknownst to be, burned oil like 10. On the long idle down the other side of the bridge, the oil built up, and whn I stepped on the gas to make the final little run into the booth, the thing began to smoke like a fire!!
The customs officer ripped into me, saying you can't bring that over here, we don't need the pollution, etc. etc.
I just calmly said, "Whatever you need to do, sir, that's OK."
He shut right down, I expalined a bit more, and he let me go.

Just look them in the eye, answer whatever they want and smile. They know as well as you do that the smile means "You're full of it!!", but he'll let you go!!
