Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/?name=matt+cooke) has been suspended for the rest of the regular season (10 games) and the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs for his elbow to the head of New York Rangers defenceman Ryan McDonagh (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/?name=ryan+mcdonagh).
The incident occurred less than five minutes into the third period of Sunday's Rangers-Penguins game, when Cooke went high and landed an elbow on McDonagh's jaw. McDonagh had his back turned to the Penguins forward, and was in the process of shooting the puck into the offensive zone. Cooke was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct.
"Mr. Cooke, a repeat offender, directly and unnecessarily targeted the head of an opponent who was in an unsuspecting and vulnerable position," said NHL senior executive vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/?name=colin+campbell). "This isn't the first time this season that we have had to address dangerous behavior on the ice by Mr. Cooke, and his conduct requires an appropriately harsh response

It wasn't a devastating hit but it had intent to injure written all over it. I think it was a good call by Campbell considering Cooke's past track record.

I was glad to see the Penguins stance on this.
There is no defending it with this guy!
