Just to show how much Hypocrites Montreal are .. here is a vid of Hal Gill Runnin Jon Sim into a 'turnbuckle', and the Montreal Crowd cheering. And they want to come down on Chara ?? I don see the difference between the two kids, except Sim is man enough to get up.

I'd say. Chara wasn't intentional and the one ID showed was. I haven't seen a crowd of babies that big since.... hmm... Bell center just keeps coming to mind.

Habs fans have proven before that they can have no class at times, this is just another one of those times, I guess. Regardless of whether or not the hit was intentional, players need to be more careful. They need to be fully aware of their surroundings, and be careful when hitting a player. I'm sure both Hal Gill or Zdeno Chara did not have any intent to injure, though. Both are big guys that can hit hard.

Therefore, I almost feel sorry for you, because if you think I'm so stupid because I am a yank, it must really suck to always be outsmarted by a "yank". *crickets*

That's what I thought!

No crickets. Again, read this thread, It's about hypocritical fans and not solutions. Good job, though. For the record though, I don't think anything has changed other than the size of the players, and subsequently the intensity of the hits. Add in the new equipment and you have the recipe for some pretty nasty hits. Some do argue that the instigator rule plays a large part in the lack of respect shown by some players, too. However, as the type of hit being discussed in this thread rarely occurs in the game, I do not think the NHL needs to do anything at the moment in terms of rules.

Ultimately, the responsibility falls on both the player initiating contact, as he should take caution not to hit other players in a vulnerable position, and the player being hit, as he should take caution not to put himself in a vulnerable position. However, as mentioned above, these turnbuckle hits are not too common in the NHL, other than the two recent. If Chara's hit resulted in no injury, this wouldn't even be a topic of discussion.

Happy now, old man?

Jack Butler

Sorry to disappoint, but you are not a great hockey mind, Jack. Also, I do know how the game was played a short while ago. The game was full of obstruction was dreadful at times. Post-lockout rules have allowed for the game to become faster. Bigger bodies plus faster pace plus less obstruction will of course lead to more hitting, some of which has been really dangerous.

Accountability is also something missing from the game. Gone are the days when players were held accountable for their actions. Guys like Semenko dictated what was acceptable, and for the most part, other players fell in line. Fear was a powerful tool. Hockey used to have an unwritten code that has been replaced by a group of suits deciding what disciplinary action should be taken.

Look at Cooke, for example, if he were in the game in the days of the code he would have been eaten alive if he did half of the things he does. Just my opinion.

As dreadful as you think it was, there has to be a balance.
The pick, a bit of obstruction and clutching and grabbing has to return.
It's the only way to slow the player down.
Get rid of the trapazoid. Letting the goalie play the puck again would eliminate a lot of what happens on the end boards.
Removing the instigator would only be a dream, but yeah it would help.

The Great one was saying this the other day on OTR .. but at the same time, Marty Mcsorley is suffering from post concussion syndrome, and it has been show that Probert brain was damaged from repeated blows to the head. So taking the instigator fighting would solve a little bit, but the fighters are the ones that are going to be put in danger to suffer from concussions. SO are we to protect the stars while puting the pawns up to be sacrificed ?

and I am not disagreeing with you, but it does put up a great point if they were to take out the instigator. You will have unskilled fighters weighting in at 240 - 260 lbs causing more damage then good.
