Any rough idea what it might cost to replace aluminum siding with new vinyl siding on a small 1 1/2 story house?

Depends on what you buy for siding. If you do the work yourself,

You are looking at anywhere between 6-8 thousand. That includes soffit and fascia and if done by a professional.

becarefull on who you go with because i see lots of houses with lost siding because of the winds ... and crappy install of siding ... my grandma went with CB homes .. and after all the heavy winds the siding is still on properly ... mind you the lady across the street from her the company that did hers botched it up so bad that the wind blew it off and the rain got in and caused damage... to top it off they are no longer in business and cant be reached ... if i knew the name id post it ... but its almost useless cause they are no longer in business anyhow ...

We're at about 4500$ in materials ( siding plus insulation, and wood to rebuild 3 walls) with replacing aluminum with vinyl plus adding insulation. Was quoted 11,435$ to have it done professionally. That quote was on a 1 1/2 storey house and with us ripping the old siding off ourselves. If you can do the work yourself you'll save a ton if you do it right.

Get good quality siding - it's worth it.
You can get money for the old aluminum nowadays too.

my parents just got theirs done by lyons for about 4500. no soffit or facia and they didn't have to do the gables. the other estimates they got were 6200 and 9000.

You get what you pay for...We got "someone" off Sootoday that had an add for siding,roofs,etc......before we hired them we got quotes from a few "known" places in town and the "sootoday" guys were "much" lower"...He had ads and references...that we checked out and so on...but in the end-we thought his references were good and it turned out that they were his 'buddies" and he was full of S**t...He said it would take a week to put new insulation(from the outside)and siding on the whole 1 and 3/4 storey house....it took them about 4 weeks to do it and they were the worse job you could imagine...There were nails and screws everywhere and the "boss" was ALWAYS sick when we tried to call him...so...needless to say-our house "looks" good from the outside(we've had alot of compliments on it but we've had to fix many things since....and the "contractor" suddenly fell off the face of the earth......He' is still advertising on Sootoday but under a different name so be careful who you hire...Don't always go with the lowest price and "GO CHECK OUT" their references.....Do not take their word for it.......If you'd like to know the name of who it was we hired....email me and I'll let u know...
