IT is a sad day when you try to read about the death of young person, who has just past, to find so many posters being nasty, crule, mean, heartless.....
This was a child of our community thatfor some reaso took a bad drugs,
She was a humanbeing with a family and a life time ahead of her.
Those who where so judgemental need to take a close look at themselves to see why they're so angry and heartless.
Respect seems to be lost in this forum all to often.

It is a sad time when anyone dies, however I don't have much sympathy when a girl who knew the dangers of drug use made the choice to start them in the first place. It's called consequence. I am not heartless nor angry just honest.

IMHO

I feel no sadness for the girl...just her family whom she left behind to wonder what they could have done different. It is easy to say it is or is not the parents fault...we know not the details. The girl was the ONE who DID IT..she made a choice......so the parents should not beat themselves up over that fact.

Exactly, and if I hear one more time how "drug abuse is a disease" I'm going to slap someone. Who ever thinks that, come with me for a ride to Sick Kids hospital, and I'll damn well show you what disease is. You want to play with fire, you get burned. We need to stop justifying and let them drug themselves to death. It'll be one less headache and money saved on trying to rehabilitate people who know better.

I thought former NHLer Theoren Fleury put it best.....

"You can be diagnosed with cancer and one day be 100% cancer free, but I will always be an alcoholic"!.....or something like that.

I think what they are talking about is addiction.

really? I'm pretty sure that's why everyone does drugs. I guess it's easy to judge someone based on the fact that they died while doing drugs, however, it's not like these things are uncommon. And cocaine is a pretty popular drug everywhere. So to a young person, the dangers may not be as apparent.

People try them out because they think it will be fun. You can't make up your facts if you yourself haven't done it, so unless you are telling us you have and there was an underlying reason behind it, why not admit defeat and take it from people who have... it was cause it was thought it would be a good time.

We can't be with our children 24/7 to watch what they are doing. Some experiment, some don't, some get addicted unfortunately.
Taking drugs is a choice, and IMO, not a result of poor parenting, EVER. Poor parenting is being a poor role model and accepting that their child is addicted and not offering help if and when they reach out for it. You cannot threaten or discipline a person into quitting an addiction. They have to come to that conclusion themselves.

I feel very sorry for this girl and her parents. I don't believe she took these drugs to die, she took them to get a buzz even though she probably knew the dangers of taking coke.

Unless you know her personally and partied with her (I don't), no one knows how many times she took drugs previously and enjoyed their effects. This was either a bad batch or an accidental overdose.

I hate drugs!

Not really. not all.some have just been through so much they no longer care. In counselling some of my youth they just don't care they just want to numb themselves for the time being and get through that moment be it good or bad. They know in theory what COULD happen but they just don't believe it will and if it does they just don't care.

Chances are this was not her first time doing drugs, it may have been her first time doing coke but not likely to be her first time doing drugs. Most youth will start with Pot or pharmaceuticals as they are easy to get. Coke actually isn't really popular with teens. Most teens I see its pot, and pharms mixed with alcohol, some yes do coke but its not as popular as people think in this town.

Who on here said "and accepting that their child is addicted and not offering help if and when they reach out for it"
I don't think any parent accepts it. Either parents don't know, are blind, don't care or they simply have given up because they just can't do anymore. An addict does not reach out for help....by the time they are an addict it is then the drugs talking the drugs control the only thing that matters is the next fix. In a sober moment when or if they have one they may regret their decisions and want help but the addiction will soon take over. Offering help the addict will not accept, it basically has to be an ultimatum you either get help or I am not enabling you any longer IE give money, roof over heads, food, drugs, and most often parents are entwind in their children, often they want to help so bad they only become enablers, by giving them everything they need to continue their drug addictions, for fear they will die however the very help they are giving them is killing them. It is a slippery tricky slope, one that is not easy to maneuver and unless you lived it, worked with it experienced it you can never fully understand.

The flip side are parents who are also addicts and promote the life style. I have actually seen that, so it can also be a learned behaviour, our kids will do as we do despite us saying do as I say not as I do. If it was ok for mom or dad, or uncle or grandma it must be ok for me to.

Where did I say government based rehabs were any better. again the individual teen or not has to want to change has to want to do it. Teen challenge and government based rehabs can only give them the tools to succeed it is up to the individual to use those tools they learn while they are there. But don't try to promote teen challenge to be the end all be all of rehabs and that it will cure the individual because it doesn't and more often then not the individual will slip up.

If you truly worked Teen Challenge then you would know the cycle of Change and know that few people ever get to maintenance level and even then they can fall out. Thats the beauty if you call it that of free will and choice. You will also know that you can go back and forth between those stages.

My apologies. You stated an opinion, and I didn't think a response was needed or expected.

You, of course, consider it needful to pop back with an insult.

I do not.

Have a nice day!!

Dear Mr soundbear

I would like to take this oppurtunity to thank you for showing me the errors of my ways. Although I lost count of the warnings I have received in the past 24 hours, the overall message has not been lost. My plan in the future is to take the tools and build me some character. I have the blueprint all ready to go and it consists of empathy, sympathy and apathy and I have removed the sociopathy and psychopathy. I have also removed sarcasm from my vocabulary so that you no longer get confused with my intentions. You are a valuable asset to this community and are dearly loved here. Once again thank you for staying with me even though I went off the trail. It does not go unnoticed and you will be paid back with love tenfold

Dear Cat,
I am reminded of the young actor, discouraged at the bad review he received, saying to the older actor, "I guess you just have to ignore the bad reviews."

The older man replied, "Yes, and you have to ignore the good ones, too."

Let's all treat each other as we would like to be treated. Such a simple idea.

I believe the vagaries of the english language allow such a sentence structure. One referred to drug rehab and one to drug use. Use the word "topic" if you prefer.

C'mon gentlemen. I propose a truce between us all where all opinions have some merit but that none have any more merit than the other. We need to have some friendly chatting that ends with 'have a great day. Together we can make this place as enjoyable as the weather we had today. Life is precious, let's not tarnish it with banter.

Peace,

Respectfully I must say there is no such thing as bad catnip. It may not be preferential to one, but remember one person's junk is another man's treasure.

Should be that if you are posting on said sight, in this case soapbox you should not be allowed to be a moderator on that site. Cause then if you don't like what someone says, against your view then you just repremand them.... Toooo Easy for some....not all but .....

This place needs someone that will moderate (control) the moderators. Its a senior management problem....as usual.

Yes, but I have seen that there are Some very good Mods. on here surprisingly, they don't have to be on here all the time. But Some are very good. I won't say the same about all, but 99% are pretty darn good !

When I start posting insults, and deleting posts that disagree with my viewpoint, I'm pretty sure admin will kick me off.

Would only be fair.

BTW, anyone of us is allowed to delete his own posts. The last time I did so to get out of the sports section where, I confess, I went on a bit too long, off topic. I had hoped somebody would do the same, but he hasn't.

An interesting exercise in the human condition.
