Parents and friends of Swedish and Singaporean swimmers as well as a host of other countries have been refused access into the aquatics centre over the past two nights, missing seeing their loved ones compete, while other parents have had hours of angst trying to sort tickets at the last minute.

Adding to their woes were the pictures of empty seats in prime positions.

The locks at London's Olympic football final venue Wembley Stadium have had to be changed, after police responsible for security at the world-famous sports arena lost their keys.

I guess Romney was right in questioning how prepared the Brits were, security-wise.

He did take quite a beating in the British press. Why I'm not sure.

An appearance by the hapless comic character Mr. Bean was one of the highlights of the London Olympics opening ceremony. Yet a series of Keystone Cops moments has games organizers hoping they don't keep up this slapstick routine in real life.

Security arrangements were thrown into chaos weeks before the opening ceremony when private security contractor G4S acknowledged it would not be able to provide all the guards it had promised. Thousands of soldiers, sailors and air force personnel — some just back from Afghanistan — had to be drafted in to plug the Olympic security gaps.

Then last week, as the Olympic soccer competition kicked off, organizers mistakenly displayed the South Korean flag on a jumbo screen while introducing the North Korean women's team. There could hardly have been a worse mix-up — the two countries are still technically at war.

Then Welsh footballer Joe Allen was listed as English in the British team's official program, prompting a wave of mocking commentary across Twitter.

Ellis Cashmore, professor of culture, media and sport at Staffordshire University, said the sheer number of Olympic errors has had a numbing effect.

"It's almost as if we've become anesthetized to them," he said. "It's almost as if we're expecting another gaffe.

The farcical moments started more than a year before the games, when the official Olympic countdown clock was unveiled in London's Trafalgar Square — and promptly broke down.

On Friday, during a mass celebratory bell-ringing to mark the start of the games, Olympics Secretary Jeremy Hunt's bell went flying off its handle and narrowly avoided a bystander. No one was hurt, but the incident, captured by a TV camera, drew comparisons to Mr. Bean, the accident-prone Englishman created by comedian Rowan Atkinson.

He did take quite a beating in the British press. Why I'm not sure.

Privately, many security experts agreed with him.

I can understand the Brits not being too happy with him saying what he said. But the fact is, if it's true, don't shoot the messenger, do something to rectify the problems.

Luckily, most of the gaffes have been somewhat comedic in nature. But, there's always the chance something ugly could occur.

Olympic judges and referees came under fire on Wednesday with one fighter accusing them of "a fix", another successfully appealing a loss and even boxing great Lennox Lewis questioning some of their calls.

it happens in every city that hosts the olympics......critics finding fault wherever they can. It seems to come with the territory. This is a huge venue to host and I don't recall a city that hosted the games without a hitch...... I can read these stories in the paper or hear about them on the news.....nothing new here.

That's a double-negative. So what you're saying is there was no bombing in Atlanta.

Bombs at the Atlanta Olympics and this Einstein posts an article about GB security losing keys and getting the locks replaced, all this to try and take a jab at Brits.

Good to know I can come here once every three months and see you make a monkey of yourself as usual. Poor Roger, never thinks about what people may retort with, he's just concerned about trying to take a jab at anything outside the US. You really should take that extra 2 minutes and say to yourself, "Ok, what could they come back at me with?"

You might save yourself some embarrassment.

Then of course, the usual ... once Roger realizes his original thought/post is moronic he'll pull something out of left field to try to derail thus making it all even more idiotic.

Holy crap man, give it up ... you lose every single time. It's not funny any more, it's sad.

Do they have a bigger economy than us? Nope, and we have almost a billion less people. WOW, WE are GOOD!

As for being beaten by other countries, you've got 28 beating you...which, truth be told, is about 30 less than most people figured. So on that note, congrats!!! :)
