So, a sports headline today says Japan beat Canada to win the World Curling Championship.

Errr...didn't the world just have the Olympics??

One month after Olympic gold medals are handed out there is another world championship...shouldn't Olympic golds be considered world championships?

Why, yes they should. As in the best. :) :) :)

Then why have a "world championship" a month later?

I suppose Japan winning one game vs. Japan winning the world championships might be considered splitting hairs to some.

For the second straight year, Morozumi’s Japanese squad from Karuizawa pulled off a major upset of Team Canada, turning back Calgary’s Kevin Koe 9-6 on Sunday afternoon in the 2014 World Men’s Curling Championship, presented by Ford of Canada, at Capital Indoor Stadium.

So being Olympic Champion (re: World Champion) at curling lasts a grand total of one month?

Seems a bit unfair, docnha' think?

More like a different level.

A lot of sports work along these lines. As an example figure skating had the world championships for 2014 in March. The 2012 world ping pong championships were held in March and the Olympic championships were held in July and August.

If I was a world competitor playing against Canada, I'd be disappointed not to try my skills against the Olympic gold team. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me that "Team Canada" is a different bunch.

The upcoming world Hockey championships will have very few players from Canada's Olympic team on its roster if any.

Olympic Baseball Never has the best North American players that's why Cuba almost always wins.
