One reason Christians don't like this movie is shown in the line from the trailer.

"I exercise control in all things."

It's too much like the way many of the men are taught.

Guess Who?

So don't watch it. Horny women like it. That is why it was made. It will make millions, dispite religious detractors.

And despite non-religious detractors. Unfortunately.
Because people of all stripes, colours and religious persuasion don't care to be entertained by BDSM themed movies.

Well, so far the world has survived Nine And A Half Weeks, Wild Orchids, and Crash. I really don't think Fifty Shades will make that much of an impression on anyone.

I don't intend to watch it.

But I'm not in the least surprised at who answered and that you all missed my point.

You come from a religious background where women are told to be obedient to their husbands, and you're worried about a movie with control issues?

You also come from a religious background where slaves are acceptable, and specific rules about how to treat them are spelled out, and you're worried about a movie with control issues?

What, are you offended by someone who claims to have control, because your God is exclusively driving the boat?

Take a look around you, take a look at the news. I don't see a God in control of anything.

As far as I'm concerned, Crash is a far worse movie than Fifty Shades of Grey.

In that movie, people get off sexually on the violence and death associated with car wrecks, and actually cause some, to get more gratification.

There are far worse things on film, than housewives who like to get tied up.

It is too bad that you think the traditions of some religions have anything to do with true Christianity.

But it's an old story with you.

2000 years old, to be exact.

Really, then who put the Christ in Christianity?

Oh, you're trying to be cute, and piggy-backing off the Jews, and looking at the Adam and Eve thing, huh?

Part of me expected more, from part of you.

It can be shown that Christ was predicted in every book of the bible, starting with Genesis. And that there were many children of God who never even heard His name.

The point of the OP is that it can be shown from all areas of the bible that control of women by men is not the Christian way.

Christ wasn't predicted in every book of the Bible, a 'Messiah' was. And traditional Jews don't think Jesus is the Messiah.

Another example of re-creating reality to fit into your beliefs.

"Another example of re-creating reality to fit into your beliefs"????

You have no idea, do you?? Is this the game, again??

The word "Christ", is not a name, it means....

wait for it......

Messiah!!!

The Left Sock

Yeah, and Jesus wasn't it, according to the Jews.

So, what's your point?

You can't possibly be feeling clever, after this exchange.

It must be hard to consider yourself one of God's Chosen, when you can barely hold your own, haggling with the heathens.

The book and movie where terrible, it perpetuates the acceptance of violence, he used BDSM as an excuse to violate, rape, and stalk her.
That being said, I am glad they came out, the movie particularly, has brought meaningful conversation around the issue to the front in regards to the difference between BDSM and violence.

Once again, you show how little you understand what God wants of us.

But then, who knows, this is just the game.

Naa, Ghomeshi already did that. But thanks for coming out to express your distaste of it.

True, and 50 shades is bringing it further out.
But yes, the story itself is a steamy pile of....
wait, I have read better literature from a donkey's leavings....

I find the lack of reaction to various postings very interesting.

In speaking to a divorced lady about her ex's actions, she commented that A controllers, ie, those who "exercise control in all areas" don't like to talk about it, B those controlled are afraid to talk about it, and C so many just don't understand what could really be going on in a relationship like that.

I believe that is the case with this movie. The porn aspect is a convenient shovel with which to bury it.

You said the OT never talked about Christ, only a Messiah.

That's like saying "The OT didn't talk about a Messiah, it only talked about a Messiah"

That's a head-scratcher.

The Jews don't recognize Jesus as the Christ, or the Messiah.

Keep playing with words, doesn't make you any more credible.

The Messiah prefigured in the OT is the Messiah in the NT. The Jews will eventually accept Jesus as The Christ.

Just discussing this with a friend. How many men, " exercise control in all things " in their families, and lose all their kids to the world??

RWGR

I think it happens much too often, Barry. And it's so easy to lose kids to what the world has to offer.
