So I call last Friday to get changes made for a customer, and get told I'll get a confirmation e-mail soon.

Nothing.

Yesterday I call to see what's going on.

Nothing.

Today I call the guys direct number, and tell him to forget it, and call in to 310BELL again.

No problem, here's your confirmation number, and that will be done it about 10 minutes!!!

Some employees just don't get it. How can a company survive with service like that???

Service, real service was last seen in the sixties. Since then it has been replaced with a cavalier, don't give a damn, I will get to you whenever we can attitude. Service after the sale was a very large part of sales back then, today it is all about the price.

People still have landlines??

We do, but they are all IP phones now.
By by Bell.
Oh wait. Our internet connection is still with Bell.
But now we just pay our monthly internet fee instead of the ridiculous cost of business lines.

Businesses need landlines. Though they don't need to be Bell, thank goodness.

Unless your biz is out in the country!!!

Hate to argue with you.. but here in Toronto, lots of companies have switched to voice over IP. Some are just given headsets to plug into their computers. No phones at all.

A landline is an advertised phone number, be it analog or VOIP. A cell phone is not.

Haven't seen the "no phone at all" thing here yet.

But lots of people have VOIP. A Shaw modem gives dial tone to their regular phone system or home phone.

And Bell's long distance has been VOIP for many years.

Ahh, it's the terminology. My apologies.

I have a physical land line, and they will have to pry it out of my hands.

We have two land lines and eleven cell phones. They each serve a purpose in their own turn. I will admit the one land line' purpose is sentimental but none the less.

Ah, but who still had a working phone during the large 2 day blackout some 10 years ago?
That is right, this guy.

With IP phones you are quickly done during a large blackout. Ironically the old system works better than the latest and greatest.

I would never get an ip based phone, not even if they gave me one for free.

You might have an analog, Bell phone line. But you will only be able to call those with analoge Bell phone lines.

AND, years ago, businesses were big into battery backups, with dozens of batteries to keep their phone systems going. That is all gone, because when the power goes down, you are OUT of business, till the interac, cash register and computer system comes back.

Why do you feel the need to let everyone know what activities you prefer doing sober? Odd statement.

Yes, and what happens when the internet goes down? You might have power, but the network does not so it is totally useless for you.
The issues with VOIP is that it relies on a network, and in turn that network relies on many access points requiring power or it goes *poof*.

Actually no. Wien (pronounced Veen in German) is the German name for Vienna, and a person living in Wien is a Wiener.
Just like a citizen of Hamburg is a Hamburger. A wiener is often referred to as a Frankfurter. or wuerstchen.. a cutesification of Wurst.

Confusing to monolingual minds, I know.

But I have gone off topic.
