Try switching ports on your router. Most routers have 4 ethernet ports that you can connect computers on. Trace the trouble computers ethernet cable to the router and switch the ports. If that doesnt resolve the issue, try switching out ethernet cables.
Also make sure its a router not a hub. The symptoms sound "hub like". Where collisions are making a neusence.
If it is a router, just using the factory reset on the router, and reboot both.
Check your computer directly to the modem to see if its your computer thats the problem as well.
thanks, t-pot, still workin for shaw? amyways heres the diagnostics i got

"warn This machine has more than one Ethernet or more than one Wireless adapter

Sounds like you have a enabled Onboard lan card and a seperate ethernet card.
"Name=Local Area Connection 3, Device=VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter, MediaType=LAN, SubMediaType=LAN"
"info Network connection: Name=Local Area Connection 4, Device=NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller, MediaType=LAN, SubMediaType=LAN"
Shows you have two active ethernet. Disable the onboard.
If you have both, go into the bios and disable the onboard. or just go into Hardware manager, right click on the onboard one and hit disable.
Make sure the cat5 is plugged into the ethernet card and restart.
If your still having problems, pm me and i'll try fix it for ya.
btw. the onboard one is more than like the nForce, because mroe than likely you have the Nvidia Nforce chipset motherboard.
