Now the bible has a story about Adam and Eve.

2 people.

I'm understanding they had 2 kids? Cane and Able?

Didn't Cane kill able?

How did the human race survive? Who gave birth and how did we reproduce from that?

So there are 2 parents left, with 1 child.

Incest?

I really want to know, so I can back up my theory of false stories in the bible.

Why don't you pick up a bible and actually read it???

Gen 5:4-11
4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:
5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
6 And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:
7 And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:
8 And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.
9 And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:
10 And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:
11 And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.

You'll notice that the FIRST child is mentioned, but then hundreds of years pass, and no number is given of how many children were born.

And before you go on about incest, think about why the law was given, and note that it was not given to men for a long time after this.

Yep, in 900 years, Adam and Eve could have had well over a thousand children, if you count on multiples. The gene pool wasn't polluted yet, so there's no reason why brothers and sisters couldn't have married. It wasn't until much later that God banned sibling marriages. It wouldn't even be like marrying your brother or sister, because with 1000 kids, most of them would never even have known each other.

Could it possibly be the same reason you won't pick up the Catechism of the RCC and read it, yet still feel you can spout off and criticize all things Roman Catholic???

You're both afraid what you'll find.

I wouldn't lecture people over things that are obvious problematic areas with yourself.

Barry Morris, because I find the bible ridiculous just like you find the Roman Catholic ridiculous and as Speedy said, you don't read it.

I asked a question, and you answered it thanks.

Now, tell me where it explains in the bible, when God started to make children born from incest with health and mental problems.

You said, and I quote "And before you go on about incest, think about why the law was given, and note that it was not given to men for a long time after this."

So that means, after hundreds of years, God gave the law of no incest. So that means he altered our DNA so the chance of having a mentally and physically challenged baby were higher?

I just don't understand, i'm not being a pr.ick about it.

I don't understand genetics and DNA.

I just know from my hospital experience in Winnipeg that Hutterites were having medical problems because their colonies were so ingrown. I have heard that with fresh "stock", it is possible to bear children for a few generations before the gene pool gets to 'diluted' or 'polluted', however you want to call it.

We do know from history in ancient Egypt, that it was common for men to marry their sisters, in order to protect their family wealth.

Abraham married his half-sister, and the Pharaohs often marreid their full sisters.

And by the way, the Bible does not explain the logic behind every law.

It makes general statements, such as, "If you obey my words, then none of these diseases will plague you." and the law against incest did not come into being until Moses' time.

You ought to see a list of diseases that occurred and spread because of poor hygiene in those days, and even today in hot climates where hygiene is not a priority.

As another example: the Bible spells out a pretty strict moral code when it comes to our sexuality. Today, we know that people who are sexually active with multiple partners run the greatest risk of getting various diseases, including HPV and cervical cancer. The Bible laid great stress on hygiene, and marital fidelity, but doesn't explain why in great detail, because it was not meant to be a medical text.

It's always been my understanding that some theories of Intelligent Design (or Creationism, or whatever other words used to describe it) believe that Adam and Eve weren't the ONLY humans created by God, but simply the first, and therefore written about. I can't recall any passages that say they were the only human beings created ever, so I suppose it's possible God created many other people later on, rather than it being one giant incestial orgy of limited dna.

There is no biblical data to suggest such a thing. There is a thread throughout the Bible that Adam is the father of all mankind.

Who was writing all this down as it happened? Maybe thats what God did on the 7th day.

Actually, Moses was the author of the Genesis account. He was not there 'as it happened' of course. We do not know what all of his sources were.

Was that an agreement?

Or are you being sarcastic, Grumpy? Do you have a problem with my answer? Sorry, I don't get you.

The native creation story has a twist that might answer the question...The creator made the spirits of selected animals into human form to deepen the gene pool, that’s why scientist has said so many times that we are so close to many animals DNA...these stories and more have been handed down since time was time...and how we are killing the animals today will be our own death in time if things are not changed...this is what I was taught.
