Well I finally made it to the new arena for a hockey game. I was quite impressed with the building, actually more than I thought I'd be. The only thing I wish they'd have done different is to have spent less on that white elephant of a clock and spent more on the PA system because its nothing more than a nuisance as it is now. I thought it was maybe just me but everyone in the area was asking one other what the hell he was saying on it. It may be better to use the white elephant more if they could and just post whatever the guy is trying to say , at least that way somebody might get the message.
Its mostly about the acoustics in the building too /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

That's what I thought but why when the man sings the national anthem is it crystal clear but when the announcer talks all you hear is garble?

Actually its quite nice as with every building there will be those who will find fault in everything.
When a building is like 75% concrete, and they pour it in the dead of winter, of course its going to crack, just ask any masonry person!
The city tells them to hurry up the building, nevermind the delays, and when the building shows the shoddy workmanship of a hurried job, they complain.
Either way, who cares about the cracks, its from settling concrete that can be filled in!
OOOOOOOOOOOO the building is going to come down! LOL

True while the building is great the sound system they use for the hockey games is an embarrassment. To have spent that much money on a wonderful building only to have a PA system that even if it doubled in quality would still be third rate.

I find it smaller!
i wanst empressed at all!
I was at the game last night and I too thought the sound system was lacking. Maybe they didn't have all the switches turned on. I don't know, but you are right, they should have a great system in a building as new as this.
Also, what about the video replay cameras? The people all around me was questioning why they aren't installed and available yet. Does anyone know if they are going to be installed?

If the national anthem was clear and the announcer wasn't...It's not the sound system that is the problem, it is the person using it. I find that many people crank up the bass on sound systems thinking that a PA is like a home stereo, which it isn't.
The human speaking voice needs less BASS (for men)and more mid range/treble than when used for music. If it sounded garbled, the BASS frequencies were probably too high and thus distorting the sound.

Did you notice it did get better closer to the end of the game?
Not sure what it is but sometimes I think half the speakers aren't working but then come online later. Whether they are tweaking it while the game goes on I have no idea but this stuff should have been ironed out long ago.
Last year when it opened everything sounded great but some people were saying the announcing was too loud.

We have seasons' tickets and have had for years.Last year the SBC sound system was great and such a vast improvement over the Gardens. There HAVE been problems this year that they are trying to sort out and correct....but I think they need a crew in during the day during the week to sort it out rather than doing the sound checks and what not in the hour prior to game time. After last night,I might take a guess that some of the mikes might be at least part of the problem.
As for the "white elephant scoreboard",we're anxiously waiting for video replay to be ready to go.I'm hoping that some of the things that have been missing in the exhibition games that were featured during last season's playoffs will make a reappearance for the official start of the regular season.According to at least one poster on a Hounds fan forum who usually is right on the money,it SHOULD be ready for "opening night".
The only problem with the speaker system the last two games is that the city has turned off half of the speakers over the summer and has yet to turn them back on which has caused the distored sound and high pitches. This is what pre-season is for though, get out all the kinks before opening night. Everything should be up and running by then!!
