View Full Version : WILL YOU BE VOTING???

IMHO
09-08-2007, 03:05 PM
I have overheard a few people stating that there is so little trust in government and so little to choose from, that they will not even bother to vote in October. I have always voted...considering it is a priviledge. How many out there are not going to vote...and why?

I always do but I have to admit that I am not that informed politically. I rely on the discussions of others and what little I do read and view on the candidates.

I have never missed voting. I not only think its a priviledge I think its my responsiblilty.

I must admit that before I vote this year, I really need start doing some reading to determine how I should vote.

I'll be voting, my grandfather taught us early on if you don't vote, then don't [censored] about how things run cause you didn't voice your opinion.

when someone starts to run thier mouth about the government that's the first thing I ask, if they did then i let them speak, if they didn't then i usually say didn't vote, don't [censored].

why bother....all the candidates say and promise all sorts of things to convice people to vote for them and AS SOON as they are in office, they forget everything they said and promised and do whatever they want to fu ck over the little guys in the country. 9 times out of ten,if your rich you will have it made otherwise....bend on over.

I was not offended in the least bit. I think it's only fair. There are countless times that I or others have posted something that mods consider should be in another forum and it gets moved. I think that fair is fair and just pointing it out.

In fact my own opinion is not to have all these sub forums.

My father always said: No matter how good a politician is, NEVER vote him/her in for a second term. A second term goes to their heads and they start getting stupid and arrogant. Just look at Bush!

I stand corrected, he/she has every right to say that, but I have every right to oppose him/her on the basis that we live in a free country, so I will rephrase.

bLiNd SiDeD, you should still listen to the opinions of what non-voters say, there may be some good points that are said for the country as a whole, but they may not be what you want to hear. The question remains, what is the difference betwen voting for a douche and a $hit sandwich? do not take away my right to complain because I cannot agree with the opinions of a douche or a $hit sandwich

Crusty

This whole [censored] sandwich thing is your opinion. The people who actually get their asses up off the couch and vote dictate how this country is run. If you don't like how it is run then you need to vote ... or better yet get involved with a party and help them attain power.

Otherwise, those of us who do vote, and consider it not only a right but an obligation as a tax paying member of this City/Province/Country, can't take your *****ing seriously.

Vote, or cry to the rest of the people who are also too busy once every 3 or 4 years to make an "x" on a piece of paper.

Oh ... I guess you might have to read something other than the crap on here and actually look up a website or too by yourself to become slightly informed.

You're right ... why waste your time.

I really hope that you're in the minority. If you don't know who you're voting for today, you haven't been paying enough attention to what politicians have been doing throughout their terms.

All your reading today is that Orazietti is buying votes with handouts to this group and that group, which on the surface looks good. Are you going to remember the provincial liberals lied during their last campaign and immediately raised taxes? I hope so.

A) I do not vote
and
B) that people who do not vote are no doing so out of lazyness.

and you know what assumptions do....

I normqlly let my "unheard voice" speak for me, but I think I'll raise a cry about Freedom this vote.

Now the police are trying to get the ability to ask for information about ANY individuals on-line activity, without a court order. Cell-phone, internet, whatever! They can get your name, and put ypu on a list because??? why???.
I dunno 'bout you all, but I've stumbled onto some questionable sites in my surfing.
I'd hate to get costed $thousands$ for a stumble.

yep...think I'll vote or spoil this year.

I can't vote because I am not a Canadian citizen. Yet I live here permanently. I should be able to vote.

09-14-2007, 07:59 AM
Is there any country that would allow a non-citizen to vote?

09-14-2007, 08:02 AM
I just googled and answered my own question.

The following nations permit non-citizens to cast ballots. Those with the most recently passed laws are listed first.

Belgium (2004): Local elections

Austria (2002): Local elections in Vienna

European Union (1992): Reciprocal local and European Parliament elections for all member nations

Barbados (1990): Citizens of British Commonwealth can vote in national elections

Hungary (1990): Local elections for permanent residents

Chile (1989): Local and national elections

Iceland (1986): Nordic Union citizens can vote in local elections

Spain (1985): Local elections

Venezuela (1983): 10-year residents can vote in local and state elections

Finland (1981): Nordic Union citizens can vote in local elections (expanded in 1991 to all four-year residents)

Netherlands (1979): Local elections in Rotterdam (expanded nationwide in 1985)

Norway (1978): Local elections for Nordic Union (expanded in 1995 for three-year residents)

Denmark (1977): Local elections for Nordic Union (expanded in 1981 for all foreign residents)

Portugal (1976): National and some local elections (expanded 1997 to all three-year residents)

Sweden (1975): Local and regional elections, plus some national referenda

New Zealand (1975): Local and national elections

Ireland (1963): Local elections (expanded 1985 to remove six-month residency requirement and to allow British citizens a national vote)

Uruguay (1952): National elections for 15-year residents

Israel (1950): Local elections for Jewish residents only

United Kingdom (1948): National elections for Commonwealth and Irish citizens

Switzerland (1849): Five-year residents in Neuchatel canton (expanded in 1979 to include 10-year residents in Jura canton)
