If you've ever had Gord as your background music during a campfire at the cabin (cottage), let's hear it /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/beerchug.gif

"I walk away like a movie star
Who's been burned in a three-way script"

How do you NOT appreciate a lyric like that??

When you reach the part
Where the heartaches come
The hero would be me
The hero often fails

Enter number two
A movie queen to play the scene
Of bringing all the good things out in me
But for now love, lets be real
I never thought I could act this way
And Ive got to say that I just dont get it
I dont know where we went wrong
But the feelins gone
And I just cant get it back

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
bout a ghost from a wishin well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
But stories always end
And if you read between the lines
Youll know that Im just tryin to understand
The feelins that you lack
I never thought I could feel this way
And Ive got to say that I just to get it
I dont know where we went wrong
But the feelins gone
And I just cant get it back

Theres a house on a hill
By a worn down weathered old mill
In the valley below where the river winds
Theres no such thing as bad times
And a soft southern flame
Oh cotton jennys her name
She wakes me up when the sun goes down
And the wheels of love go round
Wheels of love go round
Love go round, love go round
A joyful sound
I aint got a penny for cotton jenny to spend
But then the wheels go round

She's bin lookin' like a queen in a sailor's dream
And she don't always say what she really means
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain

Turnin' back the pages to the times I love best
I wonder if she'll ever do the same
Now the thing that I call livin' is just bein' satisfied
With knowin' I got no one left to blame
Carefree highway, got ta see you my old flame
Carefree highway, you seen better days
The mornin' after blues from my head down to my shoes
Carefree highway, let me slip away
Slip away on you

Oh the prairie lights are burning bright
The Chinook wind is a-moving in
Tomorrow night I'll be Alberta bound
Though I've done the best I could
My old luck ain't been so good and
Tomorrow night I'll be Alberta bound
No one I've met could ever forget
The Rocky Mountain sunset
It's a pleasure just to be Alberta bound
I long to see my next of kin
To know what kind of shape they're in
And tomorrow night I'll be Alberta bound

Chorus:
Alberta bound Alberta bound
It's good to be Alberta bound
Alberta bound Alberta bound
It's good to be Alberta bound

Oh the skyline of Toronto
Is something you'll get onto
But they say you've got to live there for a while
And if you got the money
You can get yourself a honey
With a written guarantee to make you smile

But it's snowing in the city
And the streets and brown and gritty
And I know there's pretty girls all over town
But they never seem to find me
And the one I left behind me
Is the reason that I'll be Alberta bound

In the early morning rain
With a dollar in my hand
With an achin in my heart
And my pockets full of sand
Im a long way from home
And I miss my loved ones so
In the early morning rain
With no place to go
Out on runway number nine
Big seven-o-seven set to go
But Im stuck here in the grass
Where the cold wind blows
Now the liquor tasted good
And the women all were fast
Well there she goes my friend
Well shes rollin down at last

I remember back in the late 60's going to see Lightfoot at the Pullar.Sang along(not loudly since I am not remotely close to being good as him)and occasionally cried. His Golden collection is a favourite on road trips. If I remember right he showed up at Pat's Northview after the show and we were all agog....too bad he didn't jam with the band.

Gord needs to read this thread. I used to play his albums over and over again. Beautiful stuff.

Heh. Ok silly me. I googled to find out if Gord was going to be anyplace near the Sault soon and lo and behold, up came a concert date of September 19th at Vegas Kewadin. I got all excited about till I went back to the site a while later and saw that it was 1998...... sigh.....
