Our site has been taken down due to a hacker. The server company had to take us down until further notice. I have no idea how long it will be down. Trying to get through to the server company now. Please Stay Tuned..
That really sucks.
Good luck with that Craig

Yeah looks like we could be down for quite awhile, the entire site could be jeopardized. Could be several days. Just what I needed, a few days off /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif ...anyway, we're trying to work on a solution. Fingers crossed.

I don't have a clue how these things work but I thought we paid for a secure dedicated server. I don't know how a hacker could get in, but apparently that's what happened. I think I'll just go have a coffee, our e-mail server is down as well. Going to be a quiet day here at the office...

The hacker likely didn't get in because of an insecure server, they probably got in through insecure code - either as a result of your programmer not being on top of his programming or because of some third party code that you're using on the site - bulletin boards, classified or other 'library code' that he used to save time. This is the most common method of breaking into a site and database.
I hope you have a backup.

okay, apparently it's a virus that has messed up the server farm, at the very earliest it will take 4 hours or so at this point...I knew I should have stayed in bed today..
We need stiffer penalties for these hackers...like hack off their family jewels.

If we're gonna hack off someones family jewels for computer hacking, I'd hate to hear what you want to do with rapists and murderers then.
At least a few hours is better than a few days. Good luck hope you are up and running soon.

don't hold me to that, it could still be a few days. From what I've been told the entire server farm has been infected. I'd be surprised if we're up and running again today. Nice storm we're having though, could get very nasty later tonight with a cold front. Maybe I should just report the news on this site LOL

Wow, that sucks. Hopefully you can atleast get a place holder up soon so people know what's going on while they rebuild the server.

Yeah, we're going to try to see if that can be done, should be able to I would think...

Isn't that what you get for using a no-name webhosting provider though? Insecure servers?
All the webhosting I have setup and evaluated over the last 15 years for clients, never heard of Abacus America Inc.
Don't tell me you are actually hosting your site on a Windows box?

we're hosted by a top canadian provider, stuff happens that we have no control over . It will be fixed soon. We've put up a place holder for now.

Craig, I hate to burst your bubble, but you are not being hosted by a Canadian provider.. the server is located in San Diego...
