John McCain - Presidential Candidate

U.S. presidential candidate John McCain drew a standing ovation tonight from Michigan Republicans when he strongly rebuked Columbia University for inviting Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to give a speech on campus Monday.

"I certainly think a man who is directing the maiming and killing of American troops should not be given an invitation to speak at an American university," McCain told the 27th Biennial Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference.

A person who is directing the maiming and killing of American troops! Is he talking about President Bush?

"Rather than rolling out the red carpet for the leader of a terror-sponsoring regime, Columbia University should be welcoming the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) back on campus to honour the men and women who put their lives on the line every day defending our freedom."

Wow, a terror sponsoring regime? What constitutes a terror sponsoring regim? Giving terrorists money to train and buy weapons?

"We should recognize that American tax dollars helped to create the very Taliban government that now wants to destroy us. In the late 1970s and early 80s, the CIA was very involved in the training and funding of various fundamentalist Islamic groups in Afghanistan, some of which later became today's brutal Taliban government. In fact, the U.S. government admits to giving the groups at least 6 billion dollars in military aid and weaponry, a staggering sum that would be even larger in today's dollars.

Bin Laden himself received training and weapons from the CIA, and that agency's military and financial assistance helped the Afghan rebels build a set of encampments around the city of Khost."

Read your own link (which you obviously have not). He is talking about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who wanted to visit Ground Zero in NY, and was denied.

I like it that I can help you understand world events. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Let's ponder this, also:

Canada's role in Tamil terror

"In the wake of the Boxing Day tsunamis that ravaged Sri Lanka, hope emerged that the shared relief effort might help the country's Sinhalese majority and Tamil minority end their civil war. Regrettably, a close reading of statements made by leaders on both sides - particularly the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, a.k.a. the Tamil Tigers - suggests these hopes are misplaced. It seems unlikely that peace talks will resume between the two sides. And Canada must bear a large part of the blame."

"Despite the Canadian government's refusal to classify the Tigers as a terrorist organization, they are terrorists par excellence. Before anyone had ever heard of al-Qaeda, they pioneered the use of suicide bombings, and have since killed thousands of innocent civilians in bombing attacks. To finance their terrorist activities, they have engaged in criminal acts on an international scale, including people smuggling and narcotics trafficking"

I don't think you have read it, because they denied this fellow from making a speach at the university.

What McCain was talking about was Ahmadinejad's desire to visit Ground Zero.

Well I did re-read the article, and it doesn't mention visiting Ground zero. IT does make mention, twice, about making a speech at Columbus University.
