Dollar hits record low for the fourth consecutive day after troubling consumer confidence, home sales reports; interest rate speculation.

The dollar resumed its fall against the euro Tuesday, the fourth consecutive day of record lows, after a pair of economic reports pointed to the possibility of further interest-rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.

The euro rose to its fourth consecutive record high, $1.4153, after worrying consumer confidence and home sales data were released Tuesday morning. By late afternoon in New York, the 13-nation euro was at $1.4146 compared with $1.4087 late Monday.

The New York-based Conference Board said worries about jobs and the economy drove the U.S. Consumer Confidence Index for September to 99.8, below analysts' expectations. The index is at its lowest level since November 2005.

U.S. economic concerns were compounded by two housing reports. Sales of existing homes fell for a sixth straight month in August, pushing sales to the lowest point since 2002 because of turmoil in credit markets, a second report showed. U.S. home prices declined in July, posting their steepest drop in 16 years.

The declines may cause the Federal Reserve to lower its benchmark interest rate further, said David Jones, chief markets analyst at CMC Markets in London.

I'm actually literate T-pot, so rather than post a dancing banana or smiley face holding a cartoon flag, I'll tell you; that's what we've been saying all along, isn't it?

Well, I just dislike the fact that he comes on here posting about France/Belgium/Canada and how poorly they are doing.

He is an American on a Canadian board, of course we are going to stick up for ourselves, and show him what is wrong with his as well.

The first bit of wisdom I've seen from an American on this board in a long time.

He hates being wrong. Didja notice another thread over on religion about the Beckwith guy, that he's talked about at least a dozen times already. Like he's saying, "I was right about this one, lookee, lookee, lookee!!!"

I think he needs help.

One reason the Americans have trouble.

That dollar bill Bush is shown holding. Canadians replaced their dollar bills that lasted about 5 weeks in circulation with a coin that lasts 20 years.

It's not the coin itself that shows wisdom, because Canadians complained about loonies too. The wisdom was our politicans doing the SMART thing in spite of popular (and wrong) opinion. And now Canadians are proud of the loonie, and toonie too!!!

Americans seem to have a much bigger problem with that.

GDP of USA versus GDP of Belgium : priceless

For everything else, there's Speedy, who never posts numbers but always posts %.

And yes, I know what capita means.
I also now what GDP and % of GDP means, unlike Speedy.

Speedy, let me explain to you why your "best way" is greatly flawed.

Belgian GDP $316.2 billion (2004 est.)
USA GDP $11.75 trillion

Public Debt (as percentage of GDP)

USA: 64.7%
Belgium: 90.3%

Public Debt (Actual value)

USA : 64.7% of $11.75 trillion
Belgium : 90.3% of $316.2 billion

As you can see, The USA has way much more debt then Belgium.

Yes as an absolute figure US debt is more, but a better measure is as a % of GDP, or even per capita Hans. I'm sorry Hans you are plain WRONG. I have to agree with Speedy on this one. Stop and think about it, you are in danger of looking ignorant.

Hans

Has nothing to do with it, debt is debt. It's not because you have a large GDP or a large amount of citizens, that your actual debt is any less.

Killing your own civilians by giving them promises of healthcare and education, when your own economy has supressed them ----- priceless! Guess it costs alot to legitimize killing your own people.

Hans if you owe $150,000 dollars on your mortgage, are you better off than a group of 100 individuals who buy a house together and owe $200,000 between them?

Hans
09-28-2007, 08:05 AM
Ask the bank Dave, see what they say. They will prefer 1 holder versus 100 holders, I can tell you that.

Hans,

Forget the bank, who is better off you with your debt of $150,000 per capita, or them with their debt of $2,000 per capita?

And we haven't even looked at their earnings (analagous to GDP)!

But I can only conclude you are being deliverately obtuse to annoy Speedy. Fact is you are wrong.

Aydeloof,

Think of the money they will save bulk buying toilet roll!

Hans

Dave, what you seem to forget is that a countries debt is owned by someone else. A country is paying interest on their debt. That interest money comes from whatever is left on a countries GDP. To just post a % of GDP without any other background or information, totally skews reality.

Debt is not as important as the ability to pay it back.

If your debt is growing, you are in trouble.
