I have figured out its not the connection.. Its the camera!
Canon rebel if anyone can help I would really appreciate it

We have a Canon sure shot and we need to turn the power on the camera in order to load the pictures on the computer. But if you have used it before you will know what you have to do for your camera.

The only thing I can suggest is that you try some other device in your USB port to make sure it is working, like a memory stick.

Good luck.

try a system restore and see what happens if it was working fine yesterday it will eliminate any software changes that mayhave been made, possibly an update or something

thanks Hemi

does windows even make the sound that a new device was connected?
do you have a card reader that will accept compact flash? or andy other device that would accept it so you can test the read capabilities of the card itself? I know some cameras have settings on them for USB connection, not sure about the rebel though, any chance that could have been changed?

09-29-2007, 02:21 AM
no.. does not make the usual connection sound. I changed the connection cord and that is not the issue
No card reader either..
I am puzzled

09-29-2007, 02:36 AM
do you have access to a different computer you could try it on???

09-29-2007, 02:38 AM
Its not the pc.. My sons camera connected with no issue. The connection sound happened right away when plugged in his camera. I suppose I may have to call the company and see whats up.. sigh

09-29-2007, 03:53 AM
but if you have access to another computer then you cut your possibilities in half and when you call canon you can give them that much more info, just because your son's camera works all that proves is it's not your USB ports unless he has the same camera

09-29-2007, 08:31 PM
ok I will bring to over to a friends and try it there..
thanks again.

09-30-2007, 05:41 PM
I tried it on my niebours computer.. nothing /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
Its the camera.
I took about 200 hundred pics today and I am so anxious see them

09-30-2007, 08:00 PM
now's the time to call canon

09-30-2007, 08:02 PM
Babbz, make sure the camera is on preview mode.

What ever you do to look at the pictures on the camera, make sure the camera is in the mode.

Leave the power off, plug into the computer, and then turn it on in the play mode.

That should work.

no one working at canon til monday...

My son tried to download his pics this evening and the connection worked.. got the pop up connection and sound, but the options for downloading were blank.. nothing there.. I am very confused and getting frustrated...

put your camera's dial on the green square/rectangle, make sure camera is off, plug usb into pc then into camera, turn on the camera. if you're using XP it should automatically find the camera.

if that doesn't work maybe try and reinstall the camera drivers onto your computer?

here's the link if you need it: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct (select your camera out of the drop downs and then download and install)

I also have a Canon Digital Rebel and that's the steps I use to get the pictures off my camera when I don't have a card reader available to me.

10-01-2007, 12:29 AM
everyone seems to be missing the fact that it doesnt even make a sound that there is a new USB device connected and all it needs for that is power, doesnt matter if the drivers etc are even installed

10-01-2007, 12:33 AM
mine doesn't make a sound, it just shows a small pop up in the corner saying found new hardware

10-01-2007, 12:36 AM
I have done the driver thing and followed the instructions on the site.. nothing
I will have call them monday before my hair starts turning grey. I am so frustrated with it all

10-01-2007, 12:37 AM
it says found new hardware ecerytime you plug it in and you are using XP?????

10-01-2007, 12:37 AM
It was working fine up until a couple days ago.. I have downloaded hundreds of shots on my pc.. I don't get it

not every time. only after I don't plug it in for a while. I usually use a card reader but those times I don't use the card reader it says found hardware (EOS Digital Rebel or something like that)

this might sound like a STUPID question to ask but is your battery dead?

10-01-2007, 12:58 AM
nope. fully charged.
Camera works great. I took about 200 shots today. Just cant get them on the pc

10-01-2007, 12:59 AM
have you tried a different usb slot?

10-01-2007, 01:01 AM
yes, tried that and even changed the connection cable. nothing

10-01-2007, 01:03 AM
at this point I'd say your best bet is to call Canon on monday and see what they have to say.

10-01-2007, 01:08 AM
thanks for trying to help /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
I will call them..

10-01-2007, 09:40 AM
If all else fails, go and pick up a memory card reader. They aren't too expensive, and they plug into a USB port.

I had to do this for my old camera when the USB stopped working.

10-01-2007, 03:41 PM
I can send it back to canon..
I just a bit nervous bout how long they are gonna have it..
Its under a year old.

10-01-2007, 04:28 PM
I have decided to send it back through future shop.. I will be without my camera for a few weeks though /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

I will have my old kodak at least..
not the same though /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
