Stupid Question, perhaps?

I can not seem to log into any sites that require an email address or password, except soonet, odd!! This includes msn, facebook, Algoma U site, messenger, and others that I have tried, I get the "Internet explorer cannot display the web page", I am connected to the internet, b/c soonet, google and other sites that don't require email/password are working!! However I was at school and could log in no problem to all sites.
Question is why???? Anyone have an idea!!!

I do have a modem and router, I have unpluged them, reset them, and still nothing....and I do use shaw. But it is only certain sites that won't work.

Try going to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ and downloading firefox....see if things work then. I personally like firefox much better than IE for browsing the net.

Make sure your IE has 128k cipher strength (Help menu, about internet explorer)

Are you using a firewall? try disabling it and entering one of the troublesome websites. sounds like it's an issue with accessing secure websites.

Test the connection after each command:
Click start then run type cmd and click ok
In the command prompt type:
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
test connection
regsvr32 softpub.dll
test connection
netsh winsock reset
test connection
check your firewall settings
