According to an election campaign ad, there are 1 million people in Ontario alone without a GP. I knew the situation was bad, but 1 million!? Can this be true? There are only 30ish million people in Canada. Does anyone know what it is like accross the rest of Canada?
You, sir, are now a pariah.
You've spoken of that which shall not ever be spoken of.
Good luck.

Somehow I knew you'd jump all over that Speedy.
Now what about the 47 million Americans (16% of population).that don't have any Health Insurance coverage at all. A Canadian without a family doctor (13% of the population) can still go to emergency or to a clinic to see a doctor. An American without coverage told to go elsewhere.
To use the term you are so fond of....Canada "wins"

Not sure what it is like across the rest of Canada but from the reports I have seen and news articles it is pretty much the same thing, long wait lists for doctors for those who don't have one. I had a doctor in Ottawa but then moved to the Sault and now don't have one. The good thing for me is that my doctor in Ottawa is willing to keep me a patient any tests that need to be done as I need blood work every three months, she has given me a standing blood order good for a year I get it done here and the results get sent to her. Anything big she deals with. Part of my issue is that I had a doctor willing to take me but when they found out I had gastric bypass they said they would not take me as they fear I will be too much work. Yes apparently some doctors think that there are too many complications with the surgery despite the fact I have not had one complication. However many people who have had it done by the doctor that once did it here in the Sault has had tons of complciations. those who go outside of the sault have very few complications.
That also being said. I love Canada please don't make this a bash Canada or the United States thread. Each Country has its Pro's and Con's. Our health care system has strengths and weaknesses as does the american health care system. I had my gastric bypass done in the states and personally I would rather any of my surgical needs be met by the american system. That also being said it is easy to say when my health care in the states was covered by my provincial health insurance.

Yeah please don't make it into another patriotism contest. I don't really care that much about the US health sytem as it doesn't effect me.

You'll stick to that "47 million" figure until the cows come home. But at the end of the day, it's still a bogus figure.
Medicaid covers anyone without insurance. So, there goes your argument for "47 million uninsured" right out the window.
47 million people don't have private insurance. Uncle Sam to the rescue.
To add to it, that figure represents people between jobs. So, if someone didn't have insurance for one day, they are still part of that figure.
Alas, you 'lose' /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Well, I consider that to be 1 million healthy people then.

Funny how if you don't like the contents of an article, you just pass it off as bogus. I hereby proclaim that any link you ever posted is also bogus.
