so here are my speeds on shaw hi-speed

http://www.speedtest.net/result/191023222.png (http://www.speedtest.net)

In every online game I can't ping below 160ms... but before, about a year ago with the same shaw service I'd ping 30-60's..

shaw claims it's nothing on their end but I haven't changed anything.

Is there any settings I should have or something?

have them have a tech come out last year when my speeds dropped it turned out the line to my house was degrading the signal. Once they put a new line in all was back to normal.

You got me beat, Armadillo.

My account is with Vianet, so at least I don't have to wait on hold for Shaw tech support, they do it for me.

It seems everytime I think about getting VTone because my line has been stable, this happens again. It is getting tiresome having to have someone sit around the house for a Shaw tech who may or may not show up.

It seems to happen every 6 or 8 months. I have been slow to give up on this because of the VTone possibility, but I think this is the last time I'm going through this crap. Maybe the guys at Bell have improved since I dumped them?

Giving Vianet a call tomorrow, but if a tech guy has to come here, I'll be stuck with this for a week or more (again).

just so you know the server you all picked is not giving the true speed for us. it's only half of what other test locations give.

Terayon

The tech i spoke to on the phone said it wouldnt matter what one I had

mboy67
10-09-2007, 01:06 AM
if your on hight u should be getting almost 5000 kbps

now it also depends on what modem you have. The old blue ones were only designed to get 3000 kbps

_daynzy
10-09-2007, 01:07 AM
it's the old blue one

mboy67

It does mater I have seen the difference and back when I had one of them I had to have it swapped out a few time for only getting speeds like what your getting.

Tell them you want one of the new Motorola modems.

_daynzy
10-09-2007, 01:09 AM
how do you get the new one?

i own this one not renting from shaw, so do I have to buy the new one?

mboy67
10-09-2007, 01:14 AM
you can trade it in for the new one buy just paying the cost difference of 10 bucks. Thats what I did.

sounds like a plan.. just go to their office and ask for it or do I have to do it over the phone?

mboy67

if ur on highspeed with shaw u cannot just swap the modems for a new motorola modem unless there is a technical problem or something else...i got rid of my old blue modem and swapped it out for the extreme speed internet and got the new motorola modem and it is costing an extra $10 a month..if u can afford it go to extreme speed..it is better then high speed..

Hans

The problem is your modem. If the tech guy states there's no difference, then ask them if it's docsis 2.0 compatible. If he says no, then ask him why he first said there was no difference...

_daynzy

According to the tech i talked to on the phone they'll switch it no problem.

If not, I'll try what you said hans

Replace your modem FREE if it's a Shaw Cables Modem. Even if you have bought it out right.
