Got a little question/issue.
Technically speaking, what should the average file transfer rating be on a gigabit lan from 1 pc to another pc?

For some reason I doubt it's going to be 20-30 Mbyte/sec...

1000 megaBITS per second is the theoretical speed (you'll never get this fast though).

The speeds you described (20-30MB/s) are 160 to 240 megaBITS per second, which is definitely reachable with gigabit ethernet (mind you there are lots of variables, all devices between those two computers need to be gigabit compatible (i.e. if you have a router connecting those computers)...each computer's performance also factors into this. Hard drives usually don't read or write consistently at gigabit speeds, so that's something else that will slow it down.

Upgrading to gigabit ethernet will get you a nice speed gain over the usual 100megabit ethernet.
