I have not been on Soonet for quite some time but thought it was the day of elections and wanted to know what people thought of the MMP (Mixed-Member Proportional)that we will be voting for today!!!
I couldn't believe all I found in politics were several posts of Speedy's BS!! Does anyone care what is happening in our government??? Am I in the wrong forum?

Don't just go to the polls with an 'eany, meany, myni, mo' or 'I know that guy' attitude! Know what you are voting for! Don't just listen to the person in line at the grocery store, your friend said so, .....READ, LEARN, EDUCATE YOURSELF!!
google 'MMP Ontario'

Could you elaborate on "Communist NDP"?
When you make such statements you should supply proof of such! Just to educate the rest of us!

This was discussed a few weeks ago in another thread (http://www.soonet.ca/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=439179&page=5&fpart=1), but you can see what happened to it -- typical.

Under the proposed MMP system, we get a vote for a local candidate and a vote for the party.

I vote for the party every time. I don't care if the MPP is a "nice guy," if he's not a member of the party I'm politically aligned with, he doesn't get my vote. This being the case, I don't think MMP will change things for voters like me. Also, since MMP adds list candidates based on popular vote, power will be concentrated in larger population centres - not good for the North.

That's why I'm voting against MMP.

I'm voting against it as well....but for different reasons.I too thinkrridings WILL decrease direct Northern representation. Those who are pushing this model say the 39 party lists will be responsible for the whole province and thus Northerners can access on of them. But there are no guarantees the party will choose any Northerners to BE on their lists.Nor any guarantee that if they DO have some Northerners on said lists that they would choose them as any of their alloted # of appointees based on the provincewide popular vote.

Those pushing the idea say that the parties will be working at getting voters to cast more votes for them in future elections and thus will be sensitive to who gets on the lists, who gets chosen from the lists and how these list members service the province after they are in the legislature.Well, here's a novel thought. How about the parties EARN our trust before starting a new electoral system? How about they demonstrate very visibly that they want the votes from the North by being sensitive to Northern issues NOW.Thus far ALL the parties, either as the government or the opposition have talked the talk during election campaigns but have not walked the walk during the legislative years.None of them have shown that we CAN trust them so why should we grant them our trust based on their promises but they have never kept their election promises in the past or present......how can they expect us to trust their word for the future???

It looks like it only means bigger government.
More MPPS to support with our tax dollars.

I'm agin it.

Too much possibility of corruption, as far as I can tell. Less MPP's in the North, bad news. And not much explanation about the whole thing. Sounds like a scam!!!

Actually if you weren't so stupid you'd realize that they are socialist not communist, a whole world of difference between the two. So I guess you aint no rocket scientist then.

ok, you never know if change is good or bad untill you try it. Otherwise, untill you find something perfect, there is always room for improvement.
