It has been years since I have been accross and need to go over there. What type of ID do I need to go accross? Do you need a passport yet?
Currently you only need proof of citizenship. Usually here they accept your Drivers license, but in lower Michigan they demand a Birth Certificate along with your DL.

Ok thanks. I have both just no passport. I won't drive on the bridge heck if I had my way I would not even go across as a passenger but I need to find Nutrapals for my son and they don't sell them on this side. Hope to find them over there.
As of January 2008 you will require a passport - or so they say.
But right now all you need is your DL or Birthcertificate.

A health card with your picture is also accepted
My question is you live in a border city, how have you not been across in years??

She also might not have had a car in that period, or maybe she didn't have the time to go over there.

The other option is the nexus card. I applied for one as I figured it would be more useful to me as I cross often and will be accepted in place of a passport. It also speeds up your crossing from what they say.

If you go the Nexus card route get the American version and not the Canadian one. It's the same card but the American one is almost half the cost. ($49US as compared to $80 Canadian)

I don't bother to go across either, rather stay on this side of the ditch, but with the dollar and all, just might go across for a couple nites to get some xmas shopping done, wonder where the best place to buy a nintendo ds over there would be? They are $139 at wally world here.

I know it doesnt bite. Every one has a fear or two and the bridge just happens to be mine. With having to find something over there I plan to do a bit of christmas shopping while it is the perfect time to do it /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

They are cheaper than that at eb games.

Yes it is true, but at many times only $10.00 cheaper, but if your buying a few games it is worth it.

I was wondering more about this NEXUS card. I do not have a passport yet, but travel across the river a fair bit. I am thinking that this card would be better for me than the passport.
How does this thing work? I noticed that you have to visit a site and they interview you there if you are accepted and then give you the card.
Are we Canadians allowed to get this done at the border across the river? If anyone knows about this, please let met know, thanx!
I wonder when we will actually need this to cross the border? The website says the EARLIEST will be in the summer of 2008! hmm!

I'm looking at getting a DS for my son too. EB games was $149 and Walmart across the river is $129. It's only $10 difference. Not a good enough reason for me to buy it there.

The one i bought was 119.00 at eb games and they gave me 60.00 off in a trade in for the old ds my son had. I must have hit a sale that day. I bought a ds lite

Some things are not a great buy... but I just bought my Christmas present and saved over $150 compared to buying it here, that is even with it being on sale at staples and future shop this week... I just picked up a canon camera which was like $450 in town for about 330 plus accessories like case and 2 gig card and still came out cheaper than buying here.
You just have to shop around... there are a lot of things that are quite a bit cheaper and other things that are the same price, but personally I was shopping in the US before the dollar changed and I am not about to change. $150 is quite a bit of a savings and thats just on one item, there have been other things my brother has bought and saved even more.

I bought a vacuum across the river last night for $40.00. The same one here would have been 80.00 dollars. Half price is a damn good deal to me.
