tonsils and adnoids. The mom in me is nervous though. He is having it done with dr. Fenton on thursday morning. I am not telling him til the morning of the surgury though or he will be freaked out.

i wouldn't wait.
i was 7 when i got my tonsils out, I would have been p.o'd if my mom waited to tell me.
its not a horrible surgery..but i still wouldn't do that.
but you know your kid better than i do..
11-19-2007, 01:58 PM
I was six when I got mine out, don't remember a thing from it except eating popicles and ice cream.
11-19-2007, 03:40 PM
i would tell him sooner..just so you can have him ready !
talk to him get him ready ...
your a good mama tell him!

If your son has anxiety, maybe it is best not to tell him until the day of the surgery. At least, it has always been that way for me! I had surgery when I was 5 for the first time and my mom didn't tell me until we were on our way to the hospital because I already had an anxiety disorder by then. Even now, when I have to have surgery, I cannot sleep for days before it. I find that the emergency surgeries I have had the past few years were much less panic-ridden for me. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif Finding out I have to have surgery in 3 hours is less stressful than several days of panic attacks and insomnia!
He will be fine regardless, but I know it is still stressful for both of you.

He does suffer from anxiety /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
I will tell him the morning of the surgury or he will be up all night imagining the worse.
The worse part is I have to go to Elliot lake with him. The specialist from toronto goes there but not here. I am Hoping a friend will come through for me so I can avoid taking the damn bus with an upset child. Travelling home with him recovering would be a [censored] too.

well wishes sent to you both! think positve, it will all be fine.

they no longer offer surgery for children for their tonsils and adnoids here?
11-19-2007, 11:03 PM
Can you take advantage of the trip to Elliot Lake and make a visit to your doctor to get the MGB papers signed? Just call the office and tell them you WILL be there on Thursday to pick up the signed papers, and to have them ready.
11-19-2007, 11:06 PM
Sorry Babzz had I not had to work I would have offered to take you to Elliot Lake. I work nights wed thurs fri and sat. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif But hope everything works out well for you and your son. My prayers go out to you.

Babz did you want me to come over tomorrow and we can go through those papers? Tomorrow will probably be the last time I can get together with you before you go to Elliot Lake.
11-19-2007, 11:43 PM
sure!! sounds great
11-19-2007, 11:56 PM
Maybe you missed my question
can you still get childrens adnoids and tonsils out here in town or do you have to go to elliot lake to do it now?
11-20-2007, 12:00 AM
The doctor here for that is really old and he does not do surgury anymore. I can not remember his name. When if first saw him the first thing that into my head was " that man is not touching my kid" he looked about a 100 lol
I got a second opinion and dr fenton agreed they should come out.
Dr fenton does not come here. he only goes as far as elliot lake. He is frpm toronto

I will be sending out well wishes for your son on thursday Babzz....
We know just how you feel our oldest son who is 22 is having hernia surgery next thursday and he is already having anxiety about it...and our grandson is having "another" surgery on Dec 10th....Meatoplasty & Urethroscopy....will be his 10th surgery and he will be 4 years old in Jan.......we are really hoping this is his last...He has such a fear of doctors, nurses, anybody he see's in a white coat or even looks like one....
they dont say a word to him until he is in the room, but he pretty much already knows when he sees the building what is going to happen......
I am sure he will do just fine....as long as he knows you are there with him.....:)

So glad its over with!!
11-23-2007, 02:10 PM
Thanks for letting us know!! How did he handle the "surprise" news in the morning??
11-23-2007, 02:34 PM
He was surprising ok after the initial shock. A little panic when we got there but I was proud of how well he did.
He was hilarious when coming out of the anestic and had a morphone drip. He was in lala land with such a funny look on his face lol He even thanks the surgeon when he came in to check on him. hehe
He is on the couch now having a sponge bob marathon and eating oatmeal. Still in lots of pain the poor kid. He has me on a string and think he may be milking it a bit.. haha
I was making milk shakes at 9 am this morning

Hey Babzz! Glad all went well! You're son will be feeling better in no time!
11-25-2007, 10:09 AM
He is fevered today. should I be concerned??
Just keep an eye on it! /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Maybe a tylenol might help a bit??
11-25-2007, 11:02 AM
He is taking the liquid tylenol.. seems better now
11-25-2007, 02:34 PM
I did not have mine done till I was 17 years old. I ended up waking up the next morning with a high fever that lasted 2 days. Went in to see the Dr and they said that if my fever continued for another 48hrs to go down to emerg as it might be that I got an infection. The fever broke completely by the following day. So I would suggest to just keep a close eye and if the fever persists bring him in.
11-25-2007, 08:02 PM
glad he is doing ok!
your doc really sucks about your ohip. i think that is terrible. just keep at it, dont give up and be strong.
