I was really amazed at how many elderly people we seen today falling because of slippery side walks and parking lots.

Just driving around and within half an hour we saw 3 ladies tumble.

That is the one thing I hate the most about winter.

No s**t..... I mean it happens every year, the snow arrives and all of a sudden the road conditions are less then desirable and the sidewalks and parking lots are slippery.... I wonder if they have anything to do with each other....

Well Popples, I understood what you are saying. I hate seeing the old folks getting hurt too. The worst is that they take the longest to heal and many don't stop to help.

When my Grandmother slipped and fell in Toronto, people wouldn't help her and some even accused her of being drunk.....she had Parkinsons. My Grandfather died after falling and breaking his hip.

For the old gals and guys, if I see you fall, I'll stop and help.

If Macs falls, please let there be a snowplow on the way to hide the evidence. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Why don't you go and get lost somewhere where they don't have a "found" department?

Yikes Macs....you went from being mildly amusing and tolerably annoying, to downright crusty and rude. What gives? Have you got nothing positive to add to things these days? I liked the fun Macs better. Where is he? Don't be so negative for goodness sakes. And if Soonet makes you so irritated, maybe you should take a break from it. I say this with as much sincerity as I can, being that I don't know you from a hole in the ground. Cheer up. Keep away from the topics that bother you.

Actually I find it amusing Macs will get on here and go after others (ie. Max or whatever he calls himself now) that Macs deems to be sub par all the while it is Macs who is the village Idiot. For many seniors a serious fall is nothing short of a death sentence.

My Gram slipped on some wet grass this summer and broke her wrist. At 84, it was the first ever broken bone in her life. We were so glad it was only a wrist! She is still healing.

My original post was to point out that there are already 5-6 threads about the snow and weather and yes I believe everyone including senior citizens should have enough common sense to know that it's slippery when there is snow and ice outside.

My Grandfather fell 3 years back and broke his hip in the winter, laid there for 3 hours before somone helped him, any longer and he could have froze to death, this summer my grandma fell down her stairs and broke 5 ribs and dislocated her shoulder, she's been in the hospital for 5 months now and been downhill ever since, and she was healthy as a horse before that. Macs you're BS is rediculous, just cause you don't give a [censored] about anyone but yourself doesnt mean anyone else wants to here it and for being older than I and having children you sure are pretty immature! cOMMON SENSE HAS SWEET [censored] ALL TO DO WITH ANYTHING, the elderly know damn well it's slippery but lots of them have things to take care of and can't help but to go out, are they suppose to become shut ins just because it friggen snowed? Get real, they don't have the balance most people have and if they fall they get hurt more easily than somone thats say 30, not their fault it's just how it is, as fo rmultiple snow threads this is more about seniors falling than it is about it becoming winter and if you don't want to read it take a [censored] leap pal!!!

yeah and thats why I don't need a bulletin board to tell me to be careful when theres a blizzard outside.

You can be as careful as you can and still fall. It's especially difficult for someone who is already not too steady on their feet, and may use a cane. Most of us are going to be old and fragile someday. I certainly wouldn't appreciate someone telling me I should have been more careful when I've fallen and am injured.

So Macs, have you ever heard the saying " If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" I learned that in grade 2.

can't say that I have ....I will always speak my mind if you don't like it, ignore it. What I won't do is try to please people by agreeing and saying nice things when I don't mean it.

So you don't think that it's sad to see elderly people falling? Just to be clear.

Macs if you were here RIGHT NOW I'd slap your face. My mom fell and it wasn't her fault. A senior dropped his groceries and believe it or not there were people who helped him. YOU MAKE ME SICK BOY!

When did I say anything about that? ...FYI ...I have elderly parents and my dad has diabetes and he is very unsteady on his feet sometimes and has fallen many times. I know very well how it is.
However I don't keep telling him to be careful and this 'n that. He already knows that.
That was my whole point ...it's like I don't need someone to tell me here that it's cold outside today and my kid should wear a jacket

You are going too die a very lonely old man and when you do I hope a DOG PI$$ES on your grave. You have not one ounce of compassion in your body do you?

I once told my rude and hateful aunt that she would die a lonely old woman as she ruined everyone elses life around her.......as I speak, she lays in a hospital bed in ICU in Toronto on a respirator. Karma.

I understood what you meant Macs. I believe that you do not like to see elderly folks fall and hurt themselves.

I can't believe I had to type out that second sentence.

Krysta

Well we should already know you can't expect much from Mac's, it's the type of person he is.

My whole thing wasn't about watching what your doing because of weather.
My point was about being shocked on how many eldery we came across falling yesterday.
As like it was said earlier they do take longer to heal if they do at all.
To me it was heart breaking, not pointing out their weakness like other slow down its snowing threads.

Maybe I should of went into more detail for the one who can't understand the simple things.
Hopefully this helps with that, since my 8 year old understands it now.

This is the comment that got the ball rolling, and out of this comment, many of you have assumed that Macs has no compassion and doesn't care if elderly people fall. I find it interesting how a comment such as this, can bring about SO many assumptions. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool_shades.gif
