Ok so this maybe interesting to the AMD fans out there which still includes a little part of me.... /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

If the Black Editions hold up well and can OC higher then what we have been seeing on the NON balck editions. Then AMD stands a chance in the High-End user market.

Phenom FX maybe delayed again so for those expecting it to arrive on time. The possibility is they will not be out on time as this is what sites have been concluding thusfar.

AMD Readies “Black Edition” Phenom Processor, Phenom FX May Face Further Delay.

This is a very serious issue and not a AMD FAN Maker out of people:

"Earlier this month AMD said that it could not release any high-end AMD Phenom FX or even AMD Phenom processors clocked at 2.40GHz and above due to errata that causes system instability under high load. Even though the company said that the errata can be corrected by implementing a fix into BIOS of AMD Phenom-supporting mainboard, AMD itself has no plans to release current revision of Phenom at speeds beyond 2.30GHz. As a consequence, it is unclear whether AMD Phenom 9600 Black Edition provides high overclocking potential without causing system instabilities or not."

I just don't understand how to fix errata under high load in the bios. Unless the fix is to scale the CPU back as it reaches to high of a temp...

the blackbox 9600 will end up on the chopping block. they made it for enthusiats more then main frame . I'm pretty sure places like the call centers don't even open their boxxes, especially to oc. The next cpu generation is what to look for.imo. Gamers are the only ones that seem to keep AMD going. Which is friggen fantastic

Yes you would be correct in your conclusion which then would suck as the CPU would have to scale back in order to run 100% full load, but at a lower ghz then your OC.

So basically if you OCed to 3.0ghz and hit that error the Bios tweak will scale it back to "maybe 2.7-2.8ghz" to run 100% folding at home or even Orthos Prime .... which means your not ocing to 3.0ghz Stable.

I wonder if these Black Edition Phenoms are some the B3 stepping units we've been hearing about?

Maybe, but no verification as of yet. If they are B3 then AMD stated the B3 revision does not have the Flaw. So i suppose we will have to wait, but again to put a downer on these chips. They may only reach 2.8ghz stable as they are the 9300 chips.

The Black editions out now are the best CPU's AMD has in my mind, these Phenom Black's could be pretty sweet too.

Bet they wont be, just a hunch is all.
An unlocked multiplier isn't even worthy of a new thread is it?

What's the deal with the 9700? It runs at 2.4 but is listed as a 125 watt chip, not 95 watts like the 9600.

I would not even worry about it Codename as:

This product is available but currently we do not have stock - order it today and we will ship when it's available.
ETA: Q1 08
-------------------------

The 9700 is a power Hog and when looking around the net and i think i posted about it in another thread the 9700 is about 80-112 more watts in power usage then the new QX9650 Yorkfield. Power companies are going to love AMD users... /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
