Default Car Starter

I was thinking of getting a car starter installed on my moms car for Christmas. It's a lease, so I was wondering if that mattered at all? Also, where would anyone reccomend getting one installed. So far I've called Muntz, Car Trek, and Canadian Tire. They are all comparable in price, just looking for the best service, and service after the sale. Does anyone know if the Dealerships install these? Thanks

I think it depends on the make of the car. For a 2006 Cobalt the price at Muntz was 444.00 and the price at Car Trek was 333.00 for starter and installation. We went to future shop, they do not install car starters here anymore..

I dunno but i would nto go to canadian tire, we went in and were going to go buy a starter and have them install it and they were like well after you buy this you need to buy this special fuse, so i was like umm ok.. THEN they tell me i have to buy a second remote for the starter for like 40 bucks AND they will keep it after they ar done using it. I was like WTH why do you have to keep it, and they had no answer. Is there anyone on here from Cartrek that i can pm for some info?

I am not 100% sure, but I do believe it will have to be dealer installed.

Charlie at car trek hands down, a warranty as long as you own your car is a nice peace of mind.

if its on lease and you instal it .. dont think about uninstalling it ... its like putting in a built in dishwasher in a rental and then when you move you cant take it with you by law ... id figure the same would apply ...

You can install a starter on a leased car.
When you trade it in, if the dealer won't give you anything extra for it then just remove it. The parts can be used again on your next car.

Just a reminder that car starters must be installed by a licensed technician.

Don't wait to book an appointment wherever you choose to go. There is a shortage of qualified installers in town this year, and the good ones are going to be booked solid soon.

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT go to Canadian Tire. We took a car there a few winters ago for a remote starter and it didn't work. When we brought it back to them to fix, they said it was fixed...guess what, it still didn't work. We took it back again, (after speaking to a technician from Muntz) and asked for a refund and for them plz take the starter out. We left Canadian Tire and went straight to Muntz, the technician who looked at it asked what happened because there were wires all over the place under the hood. Apparently they just ripped it out and never re-connected any wires. Not to mention, another friend had his installed from Crappy Tire and it only worked twice, no refund offered. After he had his brake pads replaced 2 yrs later the stupid thing finally worked. Save yourself some time, money, and headaches and go to a reliable installer who guarantees (in writing) the installation and will take responsibility for any possible complications to your electrical system, at their own expense. Muntz or CarTrek are the only two that guarantee there work 100% from what I've heard. Good luck

Not to promote Muntz but just an honest word, I live very close to the shop, and I can GUARANTEE that YES, they do test the alarms and stereos they install, CONTINUOUSLY...I hear it ALL the time, every single one... lol

Called the dealership and its ok to install a car starter. The dealership does not install them. I made my appointment at Car Trek for January 9th, I guess that was the soonest they had!
