Rankin Arena Selling smokes

Why does the city of SSM and its Sports programs use the Rankin Arena for sporting venues when it openly sells discounted smokes?

All parents and sporting groups should on principle not participate in utilizing this arena until it in principle complies with the spirit of SSM's and Ontario's Laws and healthy lifestyle principles and bans smoking throughout and the sale of smokes from its facility all together.

What a ridiculous statement.
Does this mean that I have to keep my kids from shopping at the Station Mall because the IDA openly sells cigarettes from a kiosk?
Do we need to boycott the PeeWee Arena because they have a bar upstairs that serves alcohol?
And god forbid we shop at walmart...they sell ashtrays as well as lighters!!

So along with hating the looks of the new auto parts store in the east end, which you will never shop at, you also are going to boycot the Rankin Arena.

This is not going to happen...Why can't the arena sell cigarettes when all other places do?

Yep, cause they can and that won't change!, they have their own laws on the reserve, not to mention they make mucho $$$$$ from selling the coffin nails.

And where would you like the kids who play hockey,ringuette,just skating,etc. to go?Do you KNOW how crammed available ice time is?How much it costs?Take the Rankin out of the equation and your kids are going to be either playing at even more ungodly hours or having to travel greater distances.

Also,the arena is NOT used exclusively by kids.I have no problem with the smokes being sold there...as long as they're not being sold to minors.Is smoking allowed IN the building? That I would not be happy about.....but weighed against the alternative of having to drive my kid to,let's say,Thessalon on a regular basis I'd take the Rankin,thank you very much.

Oh,and I'm a non-smoker who supports the proposed ban on smoking in your vehicle with kids in it AND the already established no smoking laws.....I'd even go so far as to be in favour of some sort of "endangering" charge for those mothers(or fathers) who have a cigarette dangling from their lip or fingers while holding an infant/child on their lap [img]/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif[/img]...makes me want to go over and grab the kid away from them.
