Default Thessalon man fined for shooting fake moose

THUNDER BAY, ON - (December 7) - Two southern Ontario men have been fined $2,500 after pleading guilty to shooting at a moose decoy from a motorboat.

Kenneth G. Smith, 64, of Brantford, has been fined $1,500 and Warren Townsend, 62, of Thessalon has been fined $1,000.

Court was told that on October 6, 2007, Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers set up a moose decoy on Lac des Mille Lacs.

Smith fired two shots at the moose decoy with a high-powered rifle while Townsend operated the boat.

Both men were arrested and charged under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.

Justice of the Peace Marcel Donio heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Thunder Bay, on December 5, 2007.

The ministry reminds the public that it is illegal to discharge a firearm from a motorboat and that laws regarding the use of firearms are in place for both hunter and public protection and safety.

They musta stood there and scratched their heads when it didn't go down or even move after shooting it twice

I like how the "two southern Ontario men" are comprised of one from Brantford and one from the good southern Ontario town of Thessalon.
