you have to use the apple software known as iTunes.
Im pretty sure they charge a dollar a song.

Not sure about methods to get around using it, as i dont own one.

I downloaded iTunes, then added the music that already existed on my hard drive into iTunes (from my Music folder). I plugged my iPod in to my computer and downloaded the music from iTunes onto it.

iTunes is free to download and it is pretty easy to put the music from the Music folder into it. I am sure with teenagers in the house, you probably already have an extensive library of music on your computer! lol

You can purchase songs from iTunes but I just use it as a browser to transfer music into the library and then into the Ipod folder. Kids usually download their music from free sources these days, including me lol

Yeah, I figured out that the music we download from Ares goes to Itunes, but we got them Itunes gift cards too which are proving to be garbage without a credit card to create a ITunes account.
Stupid Ipods, I went and got my youngest teen a regular Video/Mp4 player which is awesome and takes the songs no problem from Ares, but anything that is is in Itunes wont go on his mp4 player...

If you have a MAC... it's no problem.. I have imported all my previous music library to my nano, and buy lots of songs from iTunes..can't do much online without a credit card these days..
There's no problem too great that can't be lessened by a couple swings..
