    Default bug lab question

    does anyone know if i find a wierd looking bug can i bring it in there for identification?

    Is it an insect found on trees? If so, you can bring it to the bug lab for identification after calling there first. If it is from plants be it house or garden, then contacting a nursery for a horticulturist would be your best bet.

    no, they look like mosquitos. i brought some compost in this fall with red wigglers for worm composting through the winter. i do this every year. anyway, these mosquito things are hatching from the compost.

    they look almost the same, so i just wanted to know for sure. i thot mosquitos needed standing water.

    My husband works at the bug lab and yes, you can take an insect in there to get identified. If it was aquatic he could look at it but if it came from a compost heap then there is an insect museum there where they could probably identify it. If you PM me I can supply you with the contact name.
