Default The Truth Behind the Arrogance of America

http://www.strike-the-root.com/4/goodson/goodson1.html

"The Arrogance of America"

"Not only are Americans a bunch of busybodies at home -- trying to tell everyone from coast to coast whom they can and can’t marry, and using the power of the regime to stop people from consuming recreational drugs, but they also wish to dictate to the whole population of the world on how to live, too. Americans have deployed a million of their troops in more than 100 countries -- propping up dictators who support the economic special interests of politicians in Washington -- in a way that would make ancient Rome and the Mongol Empire envious. Somebody once bellowed at me, “We are number one in the world! We’ve got to show everybody why we are number one! We’ve got to show the whole world with our military might that we are BAD ASSES who nobody messes around with!!!”

And then, Americans wonder why much of the global population hates them, and why terrorists threaten them more and more often. (Keep in mind that since 1782, the federal government either provoked every war that the U.S. has fought, or that Americans’ individual liberty simply wasn’t at stake to begin with.)"

"Anyway, because of all this financial arrogance, the U.S. debt-to-GDP ratio is at its highest level in American history, and appears to be on the verge of collapse. The consumer savings rate is at an all-time low, real estate and the stock market are far overvalued by all historical standards, and the U.S. exhibits record trade deficits and government budget shortfalls. Another Great Depression appears to be written in stone -- no matter how the politicians and central bankers try to avoid it. And unlike the last one, which occurred during the 1930s and ‘40s, the U.S. dollar isn’t backed by gold in any way whatsoever. And unlike Japan , there’s no large trade surplus to keep the fiat currency afloat.

Most Americans have never thought through what would happen to their jobs, lifestyles, and retirement plans if foreigners altogether stopped funding U.S. debt and liquidated their U.S. dollar holdings, and the dollar lost its “world reserve currency” status. What would happen if the dollar became practically worthless, as all fiat currencies did at some point in history?"

And finally, so we can all understand where Speedy's self proclaimed arrogance comes from..................

"Why did Americans become so arrogant? First, we must understand what arrogance is. It actually has nothing to do with pride, which is healthy. Instead, arrogance is really a cover-up for psychological insecurity. Anxious people exhibit various ways of masking their insecurity, and a snobby attitude is one of those false behaviors."

You can get counseling for your psychological insecurity Speedy. With proper intervention, you can get over it.

"The time has come for the United States of Arrogance to pay -- culturally, politically, and financially. Americans will be getting exactly what they deserve and I don’t want to hear anyone whining about it."

Why is there only a red "X" in a small box appearing?

Is this supposed to be a jpeg pic or something?

"Canadians are in the habit of routinely expunging the best and brightest from their midst. To sustain its system of forced egalitarianism, this nation is invested in banality (the fatuous, yet prized prattle of a Naomi Klein, a John Ralston Saul or a Mark Kingwell come to mind; these Canadian have also been embraced by American leftist proponents of the Culture of the Commons).

The mediocre give Canadians consolation. And the mediocre serve national unity like no other: they reduce cognitive dissonance and bring about that much coveted Canadian deadpan homogeneity. Indeed, mediocrity in Canada is essential to survival. Mr. Manning was a populist, and a man of intellect and integrity. He was not mediocre which is why Canadians disliked him so."

My country's bigger than most
And if asked i boast
'cause i'm really proud
So i shout it loud
Though our numbers are few
We will welcome you

Although we don't have history
Gold medal winning teams
Heroes or prisoners
World famous volcanoes
Still what we've got's glorious

'cause we've got
Rocks and trees
And trees and rocks
And rocks and trees
And trees and rocks
And rocks and trees
And trees and rocks
And rocks and trees
And trees and rocks
And water

Why does it seem you use canada as a benchmark to expound the glories of your country? You have an excellent command of the english language but use your talents to be an irritant, at least here, I hope in the outside world you make a contribution.

Come now.

Using Canada as a benchmark for glories would be like using the Toronto Maple Leafs as a benchmark for hockey success.

I'm simply showing some people that their backyard is so cluttered and disheveled, it seems irrational to obsess so much over the U.S.

About the author of this article:

- An American citizen (obviously)
- Quote on Iraq; "The Bush Administration has gone from discounting Iraqi civilian casualties to miscounting them. That must surely be counted as progress."
- Quote on China; "While America is becoming more militaristic; China is growing increasingly capitalistic. As America’s middle-class dwindles due to government’s wastrel ways, China’s middle class is 200-million strong and growing. The Chinese have money on their minds; murder, not so much."
- Quote on the US economy; "It’s high time Americans, who never tire of cramming their values down gagging gullets, remember that solvency is a virtue; bankruptcy a vice."
- Quote on George Bush; "Bush is a stupid man, but he’s not a yes man. He’s not even a 'let’s-hear-what-you-have-to-say' man. He’s a 'do-as-I-say' 'Decider,' a nickname he gave himself."
- Another on George Bush; “Under the Bush Iraq Doctrine, evidence against a theory constitutes evidence for a theory: No smoking gun meant that there was a hidden gun somewhere or a plan to acquire a gun, or a hidden plan to acquire a gun and hide it.”

And how about her article on how "Dubya" is responsible for the devaluation of the American dollar.

Great resource for you Speedy.

She's not the American you'd like her to be, Dapper Diapered One: "Ilana was born in South-Africa, from where her father, Rabbi Ben Isaacson, was forced to flee due to his anti-apartheid activism. The family departed for Israel in the 1960s, where Mercer spent her formative years. She returned to South-Africa in the 1980s, married and had a daughter. The family immigrated to Canada in 1995, and then went on to settle in the US."

She spent 3/4 of her life in places other than the U.S.

Canada, Israel, and South Africa are the two places she has spent more time.

In the U.S.

Where did she spend her formative years, the ones that have provided her with her current views?

Canada, Israel, and S. Africa.

Let's see what Ilana says...

"Ilana Mercer best describes herself as follows: "I'm a wandering Jew, an ex-Israeli, an ex-South African, and soon to become an ex-Canadian! "

LINK

So, that means she is currently a Canadian citizen, which makes your remark that she "must be an American" look embarrassingly shallow and uninformed.

What is her current citizenship?

Whatever it is, is what she is (only to a Canadian would something so simple need to be explained numerous times over).

She is a Canadian citizen.

She is Canadian.

See, that was easy!!
