Default School related question

I am being 100% serious about this so please lets keep this on topic ok.

If your child wrote horror stories for writing assignments in class and the teacher tells them to stop and then in front of all their friends asks if they are mental and needs help. What would you do? what is your opinion on a child writing horror related stories in school. This child is completely normal, has no violent tendiencies she just likes writing in this genre.

MY Main question is do you believe the child should be stopped from writing the stories?

Sue the teacher. He's not a professional doctor and in no position to diagnose any mental issues.
On top of that, the teacher should always instruct the students properly as to what he expects from them. He clearly did not do this, otherwise it would not have been an issue.

Anna Mcrea and from experience, I know how thoughtless and rude some teachers can be.

If the teacher had an issue with the child or was worried about them, there are MANY more productive routes they could have taken. Instead, they just humiliated the child in front of their peers. What good will that do?

Personally I would go right to the superintendant of the school board. Never mind the principal... That statement was TOTALLY uncalled for. I would ask the Superintendant what would happen if your child said that to the teacher. I am sure there would be a penalty for her if she did.
As far as her writing horror storys.... I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as she isn't going into REAL graffic details.
Maybe the teacher is not a horror fan.... LOL

You can also look at it this way too. Maybe the teacher wants to see if she can write storys other than horror.... in any case the "mental" comment is still not warrented.

IF she can write the so be it... TOdays society needs to stop and look at the real world.. IF the kid did not write about this.. or even think about this crap it would not be normal.. unforanatly people get killed day in and day out.. HORROR story or not.. its still the childs writing ability that should be marked.. nor should the child be called mental etc infront of everyone.. if it was a concern the child should of been talked to aside from the others or you should of been called and had it discuted with you..

SOME people write horror novels for a living... AND not that there is anything wrong with them.. just a good sense of penmanship is all.

I think I would be discussing it with the teacher principal etc.. NO body deserves to be called mental.. even if they are.. they should be called sick and NOT INFRONT OF EVERYONE....

If the teacher put down my kid (never mind IF ... I always believe my kids first...until proven otherwise) in front of the class, I would request a meeting with the teacher and principal. No matter what - no one has the right to put down your kid in public.

As far as the horror stories go - I wouldn't worry about it. At least she/he is completing their writing assignments!
Time is a great teacher, unfortunately it kills all its pupils.

I don't know who the child is or even names...I heard of it more out of disgust for the teacher, if anything.

I believe that was a completely inappropriate way to deal with the situation. If the teacher was looking writing on a specific subject then it should have been clear when the assignment was issued.
As far as dressing down the child in front of the class, and making insulting comments in such a public forum, humiliating your child in frint of their friends, I definitely feel that it was absolutely handled incorrectly.
If the teacher had a problem with what was turned in then they should have dealt with it one on one. The "mental" comments and other insults were completely unprofessional and uncalled for.
Even if your child wrote something excessively graphic and inappropriate, it still should have been dealt with privately, and properly.
I HIGHLY recommend demanding a meeting with your child, the teacher and the principle, ASAP. I would make a point of getting the teacher to apologize to your child in front of the class, and to explain how/what was wrong with what they did.
If schools are enforcing a zero tolerance policy regarding their students conduct, then it is hypicritcal for them to not apply the same standards to themselves.
WHAT THE DEUCE?!?

It is entirely inapropriate for a teacher to talk that way to a student never mind in front of the class.

I would say a meeting with the Principle and if not satisfied with the outcome, a meeting with the superintendent of schools would be my next move.

Dean Koontz & Stephen King make a decent living writing horror.

Make ya wonder HOW they developed their craft.

people write horror story books. what is wrong with that this teacher has no business saying name to a child they talk about being bullied by other students when they do it themselves. go directly to the board of education.

There will always be kids/parents who have issues with teachers ...it doesn't matter who the teacher is someone will find something to complain about them....usually when their kid is somehow involved. Everyone thinks their little angels are always right so it must be someone elses fault.
