    Default UGH!!!

My almost 5 year old decided last week that he HATED school... Every morning is a fight from getting dressed to brushing his teeth to getting ready for the bus because he hates school. He went from loving it so much he would get upset on saturdays and sundays when he couldn't go. I have tried taking away toys, tv, punishing him to his room... Talked to his teacher but his teacher said that she has not noticed anything different about him at school He is very attentive and normal their.. Once he gets home from school he fine.. eats lunch plays outside.. no more fights about everything. he gets aroudn 12 hours of sleep a night. Is this normal? I have tried asking him if anyone at school was upsetting him or making him sad and he said no and then goes on about his friends... I give up. I am running out of ideas..

sounds like his is missing mommy!

my daughter did this... so i made a point of doing something special with her after she had a "GOOD" day at school. worked for us... reading time after school was the big hit... she would curl up in my lap, we would read a book or two with NO INTERUPTIONS! she was acting out a bit to get attention... once she got it, all was right in the world again... and she learned to read in kindergarten! lol.

Most children of that age do not like to go to school out of fear of being away from home, but once there they seem to forget about their worries and blend in for the day.

My son is 6 and in Grade One. He loves school, and has since day one. His first year was at William Merrifield and he had an attitude similar to this halfway through the school year because the JK teacher came back from Maternity Leave and they didn't click. The first day she was in the class he went to give her a hug and she pushed him away and that set the tone for the rest of the year. I had a hard time getting him to tell me what was bothering him. I switched him schools in Sept. 2006 because we moved and haven't had a problem since. It seemed like something very minor at the time, but it really affected him. So keep your eyes open for clues but at the same time maybe just try to wait it out, it could be just a phase. Just keep reinforcing how important it is for him to go to school and hopefully things'll change. Good Luck...

My son loved school when he was little too and then suddenly hated it and did not want to go. A kid was picking on him and it took him a while to tell me. A quick call to the school fixed it all up and the kids became friends eventually.

Does your son ride the bus to school? If so, maybe someone on the bus is bugging him.

My youngest son went through this last year. I later found out that it was his teacher that was giving him a hard time. My son is a well behaved, well mannered, "A" student who loves school. I've never had a problem with him. He is a very confident kid who spoke his mind and his teacher more or less didn't like that and would pick on him for it. I put a stop to that bs in a hurry and this year he has been fine ever since.

Well this morning after another huge fight to get ready for school he told me that their was a boy in his class that is always bad and it makes him angry. ???? The boy he is talking about has a learning disability so i tried giving him the some people are different and if the boy is bothering him or making him upset to ask him to stop or to tell the teacher. But also his jk class is huge like 22 4 year olds... Well hopefully today went good.

22 is not a huge number.. but ontairo law states if there is over 20 kids in the class an e-a or to has to be assigned to the class.... I learned this the yr befor last....

Hehe! I remember about 2 years ago(will never forget it!) I had to chase my boy halfway down the street to get him to go to school!! He just didn't want to go cause it was too cold! We only lived a hop, skip and a jump away! I think about it now and how funny i must have looked!

my oldest had a hard time going to school this year, but i think it was more jealousy knowing that her younger sister and brother got to stay home with me, her tecaher was great about it
if i walked her to school she would be kicking and screaming, almost got hit by a bus she ran onto the road, one day her tecaher actually pried her off of me.....she was great about it
if her dad took her..well she was fine..we had to reward her to go to school and after one week of going to school no complaints..her dad bought her a hamster...and she forgot all about her fight..

When I was in grade school, which wasn't THAT long ago the average class was like 20-30. I think one year there was 33. I don't remember having a student teacher or helper that often. They usually just used grade 8 students.

I guess the rules have changed??

My son who is 4 flip flops back and forth about liking school. It usually depends on what he has planned and about not wanting to stop playing ps2, or is tired ect...I finally told him that I had spoken to his teacher who now calls me on a regular basis and she told me that he has tons of fun and friends at school (he had told me that this was not so) when I said this too him he got real impish. He still won't tell me much about school but he doesn't pretend anymore .... just says straight out that he doesn't feel like going today lol
