Personally I'm all in favor of one as long as it is NOT Top Sail Island.

You see its that kind mentality that will doom any park that gets established here. You'll have 99% of the dog owners being RESPONSIBLE while the other 1 percent [censored] it up. It'll end up like the canal area did where for years you could let your dog run free once you were on the south side of the locks. However that too was ruined by clods who had no control over their dogs. Personally if there is one or not does not affect me at all as thats the last place I'd take a dog. I just feel Top Sail is too nice an area for it, it should be for all to enjoy not just those with dogs.

how so? first you say youre in favour of leash free zone in some area and then you state that the dogs that are off leash at present are out of control and owned by what you describe as irresponsible. Theres always gonna be responsible and irresponsible owners and socialised and unsocialised dogs whether ther is leash free zones or not.Me and the group I socialise with are very far from being irresponsible and our dogs are the freindliest you'll come across and at every opportunity we enforse people we see to be responsible when they arent being so.

For myself and dog we'd rather be at Fort Creek or Hiawatha where the dog can run free and the vast majority of the people and dogs are great. Sure you do have the occasional snarl or two but the dogs seem to ignore us when we get that way as they are too busy having fun.

Yes but its kind of dirty water, a better place would be up at Hiawatha for your dog.

I think the problem here is the City doesn't want to spend any money to develope a proper Dog Park. If we can have a fundraiser to raise the money for a proper fence then the park could go on the West side of Belleview park out of the way of all the people without dogs. I personally wouldn't bring my dog to a dog park but I'm not against having one here.

My thoughts exactly, I wouldn't use one but wouldn't be against one if it were in the proper area.

It most definitely is not leash free there. By law, your dogs should be leashed. Just because it's not enforced, doesn't mean it's right.

But then again, maybe the police were called and I was asked to leave because they were leashed in a "leash free" area?

i think one of the reasons that topsail is so good is that you only need a bit of fencing since it is almost an island. and millie, anyone could still enjoy it, you dont have to have a dog. just like all kinds of people enjoy it now with lots of dogs running leash free. i agree too that topsail is very central and easy to find.

because i go to ft. creek and let the dogs run off leash (and have for years and years) i wouldnt go to a new dog park. but, ft. creek is not official and someone could screw it up - and then i would need an off leash area.

and you know what, there is always going to be that rotton apple out there who ruins things, like you say, 99% of people are good, but that bad 1% can really wreck it up. but thats for all things, they vandalize belveau park, the boardwalk, disobey rules and dont scoop poops or whatever. its going to happen no matter what. though i wonder if that stupid lawsuit from the bike rally and bellspoint will have any bearing on this? the fact that everything was done correctly and the lawsuit still got as far as it did? hmmm. hope not.

I agree with you to an extent, kitca.

However, I can't enjoy Top Sail island. I'd love to walk my dogs out there, but my dogs are leashed. Unleashed dogs run at them and my dogs get defensive. Turns nasty fast and it has happened SOOOO many times there that I just don't bother anymore.

kuet have you tried to take them off-leash, I find dog's personalities change drastically when they're on a leash, maybe they're being protective or something? There's 3 Danes that come there and are the most gentle things even when roughousing, and they're soooo gracefull.

oh but no bats allowed lol
